cheap schools OOS?

hi, i'm a rising senior finalizing my college list, and i'm trying to look for a few more financial safeties, so i'm looking at public schools. the thing is, i really don't want to go to umass, first of all because amherst is way bigger than i'm looking for but mainly because i really want to get out of the state. so i was wondering which state schools are still a good price out of state? i'm willing to look into anything besides arizona and texas (b/c they both have state laws that really freak me out). here are a few things that are important to me, though feel free to point out schools that may not offer all this.

-must offer arabic or have access to it, and offer study abroad in the middle east
-preferably has a good international relations program
-better if near/in a city
-on the smaller side (i'd like under 10k if at all possible)
-outside of new england is better

thanks for your suggestions!! :)

See that link for a listing of top public schools. notably in urban areas I’d recommend UCLA, Georgia Tech, University of Washington (Seattle). It’s hard to find a smaller state school in an urban area… but good luck with your search!

For financial reasons, I’d recommend UNC-Chapel Hill its one of the cheapest OOS deals for the quality of education but its also super competitive. The state legislature limits 18% of the student body from out of state (Resulting in a 20% or under acceptance rate for OOS) so it may not be a good back-up…

Thanks! Though is there any way you could copy and paste the list from the link you gave me? It won’t let me see it since I’m not a subscriber :(

SUNY Binghamton offers Arabic and COA is in the low 20s.

You can look into the SUNY (state university of new York) and CUNY ( city university of new york) system. Out of state tuition is a little over 10. You can check out all the schools on their website I don’t know exactly which offer those programs but with some research you should find out
SUNY.edu
CUNY.edu

try this link instead…

IU is larger than you wanted, but it has a wonderfulDept of NearEastern language and Cultures department, they have auto merit for OOS students that is $9000 and the potential for more aid through the honors program, great honors program, plenty of OOS students. It is a beautiful college town and you can participate in all the rah-rah school spirit or ignore it entirely.

I second the SUNY system. A lot of great colleges (esp Binghamton & Geneseo) and one of the cheapest rates for OOS students!
