Cheap television solution for a college student?

Some people that I know currently have a 5-7 inch portable television and they'd obviously like to get a bigger TV. I'm guessing that they probably wouldn't want to spend a lot of money so does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Maybe they could get a TV tuner for their mac or maybe there's a cheap TV they could get from best buy? I dunno, any thoughts would be appreciated haha

Craigslist is your friend.

I got [this TV](http://www.walmart.com/ip/Viore/13422978) from Walmart at the end of the summer. Spent less than 300 bucks and it has a DVD player attached. AND it’s an HDTV…although that doesn’t really make much difference since I can’t get HD through my school’s cable. Seems like they’re not making it anymore though for some reason.

Just go to Walmart, Target, Best Buy etc. and find one that you like. And remember that it’s going in a dorm room, so you don’t need a great big one.

Also, sometimes you can ask to look at TVs that have small defects (read: those that don’t effect the function) or that people have returned (again, for reasons not effecting function) and get them for a huge discount.

How much are we talking? You can get a 32" LCD TV for around $250 or so, and prices are only going to go down. What would have been ideal (but a little late now until next year) would have been to jump on one of the good deals during black friday after thanksgiving.

Vizio brand at Wal mart or Sams is a good economical choice.

I got a 26" Vizio HDTV for under $300 at Sam’s Club over the summer. If you want to go super cheap, though I’d say scour the internet for deals. I’ve never used ebay, but I’m sure you could find something for a good price.

I’d try looking at newegg.com or dealnews.com to scope out good prices on TVs. If you really want to get a good deal you need to keep an eye out and be patient. Black Friday is the best time to shop for lots of big ticket electronics (see our 19" Sansui flat screen TV for $98) but if you’re diligent about checking you can find a quality deal on something any time of year.

Try Target. The actual stores can have some good sales. Once in the summer, they were selling a 19" Vizio for $99.

People are throwing out their box T.Vs look at Craigslist. Most people just dump perfectly good working T.Vs on bulk trash days because the Salvation Army does not even take them anymore. In my neigborhood you could have your pick with probably 10 T.Vs within two streets twice a year. Also, at my sons school the seniors move out and generally leave behind these sorts of things rather than drag them across the country.

Getting a TV Tuner for your computer is going to be your cheapest and most space-efficient bet.

Make sure you know what type of cable you have (if you have it).

Have you checked at Big Lots? They have really good prices on TVs, DVD players, and other stuff.

I second ThisCouldBeHeavn - getting a TV tuner for your computer is a great solution.
