Cheapest Grocery Shopping around Berkeley??

So this fall I'm moving into my first apartment, after living at the dorms for all of my previous semesters here. Because of that I never had much experience grocery shopping and I'm trying to find out where other Berkeley kids go. Some people are saying that Berkeley Bowl is the best for produce, but let's be honest, we're college kids and we're gonna wanna buy instant ramen and sandwich supplies. I've been to the Safeway in Oakland a few times but never the one in North Berkeley.

Any suggestions?

The north berkeley safeway is quite good - has everything you need to survive college. The best grocery shopping place is the one closest to where you live.

I’m not sure about groceries, but Trader Joes is amazing for most other things. And the 51B takes you right there as well.

berkeley bowl for fruits/veggies, trader joe’s for packaged stuff, and shop the sales/add web coupons to your card at Safeway

Koreana Plaza… pretty cheap.

Not in berkeley (richmond actually), but the 99 ranch would be the cheapest; it’s just kind of a pain in the ass to get there without a car (10 minutes by car), but you could always find people to chip in money to get a zipcar for a couple of hours…another way would be to just take the 25 bus directly there (but that takes a long time). Costco is also right across from 99 ranch (couple of minutes in terms of driving distance).

If too much of a hassle, I would just go for Safeway or Koreana Plaza
