Can someone fill me in. I am from out of state, and don't understand anything on these threads. I have recently seen many threads about cheating and I am confused. Can someone tell me what happened?

A student at CHHS photographed test answers and a master key was discovered that students had been using to gain entry to the school after hours to steal tests.

ok, i could literally type up a novel about the situation but it is pretty much 4 kids who got caught. one had a master key and used it and his camera phone and the help of others, to take pictures of the AP Government midterm. they sent out an email that many other students received. these 4 ppl only got 6 days OSS so far. however, they are calling their colleges, which they should. the master key has supposedly been a "tradition" to hand it down from older to younger sibling. they know the cheating goes back 2 and possibly 3 years. and that it may have also occurred in other classes. this completely screws our rep. and the people graduating in 08 and afterwards. and also screws up the class rank, which is obviously important to colleges. overall, it a situation that is only getting worse. and some who got caught, applied to UNC and got in, and now UNC and many other schools are reviewing their decisions because of the scandal. therefore this could slow the process down.

again, just google cheating scandal at chapel hill hs and you can read the aritcles first hand. it has be implied that people are making comments that might not be acturate or true so if you want you can read for yourself. most posted here seems to be true. what is confusing is what the colleges including unc plan to do about it?

Alot of this goes on at competitive high schools around the US; these kids just happened to get caught.....I hate to sound jaded, but I taught at a school last year where a test CD was stolen by a student, the administration was informed and did nothing....Did it affect class rank? Sure did......Does it happen all the time? Sure does....

It will be interesting to see what the colleges do, but do not believe for one second that this is an isolated incident (or that UNC will do anything about it)....

again, this was not just cheating. yes, all schools have cheating and many kids panic and make a one time mistake but this was going on for years and what i understand is kids in the same family over a period of years did this. they passed a key to the school (not a key to a test) down to the siblings to help cheat. this is called breaking and entering. stealing. not just cheating. kids get suspended for a day or week when their eyes wander. this incident makes very class rank, every gpa, every college admittance suspect for the last two or three years.

college admissions say that they do not accept a limited number of kids from a certain hs but our hs counselors insist that this is the case. if it is then these kids have possibly influenced where other kids got accepted into college and that is so beyond right and wrong. cheating to pass a test or even a class is terrible but to change the course of lives is so.....
