cheating in history

My history teacher accidentally copied the answer key to the back of the multiple choice tests. He told the class to obey the "honor code", but do you think people cheated on that test? Our desks are wide desks, with each desk having two people, and are arranged in a circle. I saw one girl cheating next to me (look at the answer key and copied some answers), and do you think others did that? Would they get caught?

Of course they cheated. At least 75% of students would in that situation. They'll probably only get caught if they do substantially better on this test than previous tests, or the answer key was wrong (I've known teachers who would do that on purpose).

What difference in your life will it make if they cheated?

^so the scale isn't messed up! I dunno if my class is that virtuous that majority of ppl won't cheat

School is about learning and getting an education, not getting the highest grade on a test. It shouldn't matter as long as you learned something and tried your best.

Plus, karma is a ***** so they'll have to pay for it somehow, whether it is tomorrow or in 20 years.

Yes, but I wouldn't call something like that cheating... the teacher put the answers ON THE TEST! In my opinion, I think that your teacher should have rescheduled the test.

yeah, or put the last couple of questions on the board and ripped out that page... Does this happen a lot?

If I were the teacher in that situation, I would put a fake answer key on the back just to see how many people would cheat. I would count it as a real test as well, just to be spiteful. I would take karma into my own hands. ;)

Anyway, your teacher is an idiot if he/she did that accidentally.

In that situation, you would need to be retarded not to look at the answers. I would first try to answer the question and then check to see if i got the answer right :)

Milkmagn, how many people were in your class? Subtract one. That is the likely number of people who cheated. Anyway, congratulate yourself on having superior ethics.

will she likely report that people cheated to guidance department to put on midyear reports and will people be suspended because of this? It was quite funny actually, the class is really laid back

I never understand why people cheat. Does it make them feel like they're righteously competitive or something? There'd certainly be no honor in looking at that answer key, in my opinion.

If the teacher has a sense of humor, perhaps he purposefully put entirely wrong answers on the back of the answer sheets, just to see how many people he could screw over.

I don't think it was intentional, it was a mistake.. The teacher seemed genuinely shocked when a student told him...

If this concerns you so much, why didn't you raise your hand and tell the teacher?

Edit: This post is obsolete.

Keep telling yourself that.

It's your teachers fault, I would have been the first one to copy them down. The teacher can't decide that one is cheating just based that he/she got a higher score than usual, he/she simply could have studied.

One time the teacher put up an answer key so that we could grade a test we had taken the prior week. The answer key turned out to be the answer key for the next week's test, and in turn everyone copied them down (1st period). The teacher eventually noticed and took it down, thinking nobody noticed or it wouldn't be a big problem.

My friend passed the key to me, I put it in my calculator. I spread the key to like 20 more people in my class (a later period).

So, we go and score really high grades on our test. Seemed fair to me, seeing how the teacher hadn't taught much of the material on there.

Some kid in another period got caught with the answer key, so she ended up giving the test again. End of story.

Chances are, your teacher is just going to give the test again since some genius told him.

If that's what you consider ethics...

Because they want a better grade, duh. I'm not trying to justify it but it's really not that hard to see why people cheat.

if a teacher does something like that, it is inevitable that students will cheat and y not? it's the teacher's fault, not the students.

Wow that teacher is either really stupid or really sneaky

At least some self-dignity and honor would be preserved :P
Milkmagn, just chill. If he/she reports it to the GC, you and the entire class could petition against him/her
