Okay so first off I wanna give some background my AP World History teacher. My teacher didn’t give af about how you did in his class and he basically had a carefree attitude about schoolwork and what not so ALOT of cheating went down in his class. I’ll admit I have peeped a couple answers off of my friends test once or twice but for the most part I was pretty good about it. So for our final exam he decided that our exam was gonna be a practice test we took to study for our AP exam, which we already took in May. The practice test was online and he gave us the answer key as well. There were 2 practice tests that we took and I thought he said that our final exam was gonna be the second practice exam we took not the first. So I spent all my time studying the second exam and when I got into the class to take the test I found out it was the first exam and I was panicked. The practice exams were kind of hard and it wasn’t easy just to guess so I was freaking out. Luckily, he let us work together in groups for like the middle 30 minutes of the test. So the first 30 minutes of the test we had to work on our own and I did that and was working on the test. So when the time came to work together in groups, I decided to work with 2 girls who claimed to have memorized the test. So I was comparing their answers to my answers and I was using their answers sort of like an answer key to make sure I got the same answers as they did. Now one of the girls in my group was an advid cheater, especially in this class. While they were going over their answers she was like I can just look on my phone to check the answers. I didn’t say anything I just kind of looked at her. I did see her pull her phone out but I think she was texting somebody idk. I can’t confirm whether or not she cheated but I just remember her and the other girl who memorized the answers helped me and another girl in our group out get the answers correct on the test. Now on the last day of school, I check my PowerSchool and see that I got an F on the final exam for history. So I go in and talk to my teacher. When I went there I saw he had another girl in his room and he was talking to her. I was waiting outside panicking because I didn’t know what was going on. After he finished talking to the one girl, he pulled me into his room and asked me if I cheated on his test I was like no, you let us work together on the test and Girl #1 and Girl #2 (I don’t want to put their names out there) helped on the test I used their answers. He was like their answers weren’t genuine and he asked me if I knew their answers weren’t genuine and I said no. So then he was like okay I know you weren’t a ring leader of the whole cheating incident so I’m just gonna give you a C and grade your essay a little harder and call it a day. Now I’m not exactly sure if I had cheated or I like half cheated or whatever but I knew I shouldn’t have put myself in that situations and walked away from the group when things started getting sketch. What prompted the teacher to call me in was that I did in fact get a perfect score on the multiple choice and apparently someone had printed the answers on a water bottle. He pulled everyone who got a perfect score on the way and questioned them. I emailed him and told him I hadn’t cheated and he reassured me that he believed me. But I can’t help but feel that I had cheated because I used someone else’s answers even though it was allowed
This situation and this post are both a hot mess and I think you should be happy to get the C. The teacher has set up a test taking environment where the line between collaboration and cheating is hard to see. Stay clear of the obvious cheaters next time. Also, why are you taking the final exam in September?
Nah I took it last year
@c_dawg1738 Use paragraphs next time. Very hard to read your post.
What can you do about it now? I presume grades for that course (legitimate or not) have been released months ago, and you likely can’t change that. However your teacher does seem pretty lazy, and should set the rules more clearly for what constitutes “collaboration” on an exam vs. cheating, and enforce them.
While true, this situation belongs to the “it is what it is” category. While one can ague that the teacher should have been more clear, that argument did not stop Harvard from exiting dozens of students a few years ago.

The OP needs to accept it and move on.
I agree with skieruope ^^. You can’t change what happened. Focus on doing well this year.
