Cheating

I almost posted this on the College forum, but thought I'd post on here since I am in highschool after all.

I don't know about you, but cheating is something that has always bothered me, to the point of both anger and sadness. It does not affect me so much when I notice a student cheating who is going to flunk/drop out of high school anyways. But, when I see someone who is respected by the faculty and is known for being smart, this is when I get bothered. Maybe it's because I pride myself on studying or I actually enjoy the class, either way, it just annoys me.

I concur.
I know I shouldn't care but I do because I have to work my butt off to get something that a cheater can obtain by twisting the rules.

cheating sucks. But I've gotten used to it.
For example, The Bio teacher divided people into groups and gave each group one of the systems in the body to present in class.
My group was given the Reproductive system. Anyway, We were three in the gruop. One was supposed to get a picture and information about the Male rep. sys. and the other was suposed to do the same with the female...anyway, we were supposed to meet yesterday at my place to exchange info so that I could begin putting everything together for the presentation. But neither of them came (as i had expected) so I had to do everything myself. It's due tomorrow and I'm going to write down their names in the end of the thing with mine even though they did nothing.
This isn't really cheating as much as it is laziness, but it still ****es me off.

yea stuck on 1700, that happens to me all the time (well it did when i was in regular classes and the teachers wouldnt recommend me 2 move up) but then i got 2 move into AP classes (eng. and ss) and then i havent had that problem :)

well, I looked for a way to avoid this. But there's basically no way out. I'll just have to put up with it for the next few months.
Besides, I have the satisfaction of knowing that I'm better than the lazy freaks in my class and they would fail the class if I didn't do the project.

When ever I get put with lazy people in a group, I always prefer to do the project myself, because then I know that they won't affect my grade. 300th post!! :)

Stuck- Don't put their names down! They didn't do the work, why give them the credit? Putting their names down when they did not do the work is just as bad as cheating.

But then I'll never hear the end of it. They'll go on and on about how I'm a "little baby" who cares about grades and doesn't have a life. Plus, if I don't put their names down, the whole project is useless because the teacher said that it had to be a "team effort"

Yea, I sympathize...sadly, oftentimes there is little you can do about it. Last year, my lit teacher would take off points if the project didn't show a team effort, and if someone complained to the teacher that someone wasn't working up to standards, the whole group would get points off for teamwork.

Just because someone is a teacher doesn't mean he or she isn't a total idiot..as is proven time and time again. I sympathize as well.

stuck-on-1700: Put their names down, but after you turn it in, explain your situation to the teacher.

I just called one of the guys on my "team". Appearantly, three of them were working together behind the other three's backs. So they have their own little project. There's no chance in hell I'm letting them take credit for my hard work now!!

it annoys me how students can cheat and some teacher just doesn't care. I mean all they need is a friend that have that class before them and they will know all the answer to the quiz or test or whatever, it isn't fair for people who studied hard. I hope this problem end in college or else I don't see any good of going to school if anyone can get by like that. The worse thing is when I see those who cheated has an above 3 average. That is just wrong.

stuck-on-1700...that's the reason I hate group projects. I don't trust the people I work with and I usually have to do all the work.

I consider myself more individual/independent anyway, but if a teacher assigns a group project, I'm screwed.

i agree with jman, but not completely

I personally stopped believing in teamwork a long time ago. I've always known that if I want something done right and/or on time, I have to do it myself.

Higher level classes with group projects are fine cause there are little/no slackers. Lower level classes = a disaster.

im lucky ive only had one group project in any of my classes so ar, and it was only a one day thing

cheating is great. Almost everyone who applies to ivy leagues cheats once in a while to get where they are

I think everyone has cheated once (meaning copying someone else's homework, or cheating on a test). If you haven't you're abnormal.

I used to copy other people's homework quite a bit last year. I don't do it anymore, and I have to reject people who want to copy my homework.
