Academy investigates potential test compromise
Academy Public Affairs

Academy officials announced today they’re investigating approximately 28 possible compromises of a Fourth Class Knowledge Test given to all members of the Class of 2010, the current freshman class.

The test was given on Jan. 31, 2007, and the possible compromise was discovered on Feb. 2 when cadets reported the incident.

Nineteen of the cadets interviewed so far by Cadet Honor Representatives have admitted to cheating on the test.

The investigation to date indicates the compromise appears to be limited to freshmen. A review is underway to determine all the facts and circumstances of the possible cheating incident. Updates will be released as they become available.

30 second sermon: If you are applying to USAFA and are in a high school where cheating is part of the student culture, you need to make a personal commitment to put that behind you. The above four degrees are in a heap o' trouble because they couldn't resist the temptation. You owe yourself more respect than that, and the consequences sure aren't worth it just to keep from maybe losing a weekend pass because you flunk a knowledge test.

I figured this would get on here eventually. Just know that the admin is striking down hard on this, and the people here are still honorable. So, ya, we aren't allowed to really talk about it, but don't let this get any of your spirits down. Your attitude will make your experience here, not people like those in my class.

The higher-ups didn't want cadets talking about it, because they want to have the PR professionals handle anything getting to the press. The academy has had enough problems with extremely negative press coverage in the past.

The cadets involved will likely either get 6-9 months honor probation (the hardest probation here) or be expelled.

Knowledge tests are weekly tests from Contrails and the Cadet Sight Picture (regulations). They are either fill in the blank, complete the text, or give the answer (all tests are given orally). While you do not "need" to pass them to continue as a cadet, some squads place a lot of pressure on the four digs to get good scores. My squad will restrict the us, if our avg. is not good enough. Those who fail receive mandatory study sessions. Knowledge scores can also indirectly affect your military performance average.

For many cadets, knowledge winds up low on thier priorities with academics and athletics taking the majority of their time.

Know that the overwhelming majority of cadets are honorable people and that the Superintendant and other leaders are taking this VERY seriously

This is the article in the Colorado Springs Gazette. There may be a few factual errors in the article, but it is probably substantially correct. It does not place the academy in a good light, but, let's face it folks, other colleges for the most part just don't much care about cheating unless it becomes too absurdly obvious. The Academy is to be applauded for dealing with it.

Not only did the author of that article pick what I'm sure were the two easiest questions on the whole test, but didn't he answer the first one incorrectly? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that the primary function of the Strike Eagle was as a multi-role fighter.

Main thing is, don't blow this out of proportion. This is an incident that General Regni felt he could best deal with by confronting it head on and publicly, which he should be applauded for. It would have been very simple to try to cover it up.

Don't cheat when you get here. It's never worth it. menacing look at 2011ers.

Yeah, cheating isn't worth it. Honor Pro is BAD, expulsion ain't fun either! Failure on a test will not get you kicked out, but failure to be honorable definitely can.

Anyone read the comments on the story, at the bottom of the page? They are pretty entertaining, but sad that some people think that way about the Air Force and military.

I just read about 5-6 of them and couldn't read no more. These people are to slanted from the media like most people are when given news like this.
