Cheating?

Hey guys. My friend says that sometimes when he's in the middle of a section and the time is called that he'll go back to it later in the test. For example, he still had 3 questions left on the Critical Reading section when the proctor called time. He's really good at math, so he took like the extra 5 minutes at the end of one of the math sections to go back to the critical reading section and finish up those extra problems that he didn't get to.

I told him that he's technically cheating.....

What do you guys think?

definitely cheating
don’t they say it at the start of every test?

Yeah, wow, your proctor must have been not paying attention or something, haha.

ur first post is this?
wow…

haha yeah I’ve been reading this board for a while now, but I guess I finally decided to post this because I just wanted someone else’s opinion before I told him what I thought :)

My friend and I are going to take the SAT in a week and he’s like “I’ll do anything to get a 2300!!!” Haha

But yeah we both got around a 2100 last time and we’re both going for a 2300…

Wish us luck!

Good luck,
If he is brave enough to try to cheat and succeeds .why should we judge him ?

I hope he gets caught. Seriously.

He could be in trouble if he cheats his way into a school that demands more than he can handle.

Yes,this is the problem.Lets say he cheats,he doesnt get caught ,he gets this 2250+,he gets into some schoold that requires more than he has,and he will hardly be able to graduate with poor grades

You are being a little hard on your friend. If there is time … why not?
I remember when I gave my SAT and i couldnt color two maths mcqs in time. I had time later but i didnt. It would have meant a perfect score.
And i regret the decision. It was just a stupid test and not worth all the retrospective regret i have to feel now.

That’s not “technically” cheating. That’s STRAIGHT UP cheating. That being said, I wouldn’t rat him out, but I’d be ****ed if I saw the guy next to me cheating. I hope he gets caught.

Cheating is doing anything which violates the rules of:
a) common sense
b) the test

And the test specifically states that you can’t go back to previous sections. So yes, this is cheating.

Hope he gets banned from taking the test.
:]

I wonder if it would be cheating to memorize problems from a past section and then answer them while working in the next section? I think it is but I’m not 100% sure

I think CB should make the rule:
“Once you finish a section, you may not alter the bubbles for that section.”

Maybe they should implement something in the lines of taping the booklet closed when you finish with a section like AP tests.

lolcats4,
If you memorize a problem and solve it in your mind during a break and then fill the answer at the beginning of the next section,I dont know if this is cheating, but you cannot possibly get caught.ANyway,it shouldnt be cheating because you technically dont turn to previous section :)

^ exactly, there is no way you can get caught.

And it doesn’t break the rule that you “cant turn to the last section”

There is no rule that says you can’t mark other sections of your answer sheet

Yes,but what if someone tells you an answer during a break ?

Usually the test sections are in different order to prevent collaboration during breaks. Notice this DOESN’T apply for the PSAT.

Geez, you guys seem a little harsh. Does taking an extra minute to answer a question really constitute as cheating? After all, its not like you’re getting the answer from someone else. Its still your own work.
