Check out my stats & colleges I'm applying to

@suzyQ7, thank you so much! That’s a great idea. I am going to do that now!

For all readers,
I was accepted into the College of the Holy Cross under ED, but, rejected it as I would have had to pay $22,000 in loans yearly to attend (so much for “100% need,” right?). Because of this change in plans, I have applied to a myriad of public and private colleges to give me more financial options. I applied to UMass Amherst, Providence College, Stonehill College, Bryant University, and Marist College under EA plans. I applied to Bates College, Emmanuel College, Sewanee, St. John’s University (NY), Temple University, U Scranton, Westfield State University, and Salem State University under regular/rolling plans. As shown in my college choices, I have a wide array of interests and am not quite sure what I want to major in, so I applied to colleges that offer many programs. I hope that this is helpful to you all and if you have any questions, please let me know!

@masscatholicgirl I’m not sure I understand after reading your other posts.

How much were you awarded in grants?

How much were you awarded in loans

How much were you awarded in work study

Father’s income is $60k…does he have assets? home equity?

Did you appeal you aid pkg?

I’m concerned that you’re going to face similar aid pkgs at other schools.

Did you appeal your financial aid package due to the fact you should be considered a foster child? (ie, your father’s income SHOULD NOT be counted but may have well been factored in if you didn’t input “foster child at any point after age 13” factor.)
Consider applying to Notre Dame as it’s typically quite good for students with financial need and would appreciate your commitment to catholicism. (At worst you risk nothing… as a former foster child you’re an automatic “fee waiver” for all universities.)

@masscatholicgirl Something isn’t right with Holy Cross. AVG indebtedness is 28k at graduation and you are saying its 88k for you with income of 60k.

Bates is on your list. Did you interview?

@mom2collegekids @MYOS1634 @TurnerT
Here is my package:
Holy Cross Scholarship $32,900
Institutional LOAN $2,500
Estimated Pell Grant $5,775
Estimated Subsidized Stafford LOAN $3,500
Estimated Unsubsidized Stafford LOAN $2,000
Work Study $1,800
Estimated MA State $1,700
Total (INCLUDING LOANS) $50,175
Total (NOT INCLUDING LOANS) $42,175

Therefore, I would have to have paid $12,000 yearly ($6,000 per semester). My father owns a home and has only paid less than $25,000 on it. I did not appeal because nothing I could have said would have changed what I received: my father makes what he makes and he does not have good enough credit to take out these loans, and does not make enough to pay $6,000 in September and another $6,000 in January.

According to the CSS Profile I am not a foster child as, even though I was prior, I am now living with my dad and he will be paying for my college education.

I did not yet interview at Bates as it is financially impossible for me to get out to Maine (which is a reason I am not as highly considering it anymore).

If Holy Cross went solely on the FAFSA, it would have been a different story. According to the UScranton NPC I should only have to pay around $4,000 yearly according to my stats, so that is my top choice at the moment.

“I did not yet interview at Bates as it is financially impossible for me to get out to Maine.”

You should call Bates and as for an alum interview in your area. There are literally thousands of Bates grads in MA and I’m sure there are alums there who do interviews. Call assp.

Thank you @emilybee

Do you have any ideas of schools I would get into with my stats for direct entry nursing? I have thought about nursing frequently and do not want to discount it. 690 W 670 CR 520 M and 4.147 weighted GPA (my school doesn’t calculate UW)

@masscatholicgirl Call and email Bates immediately and explain the situation and do a Skype interview in addition to the alumni interview. Can a volunteer at your church drive you there? It isn’t that far.

@masscatholicgirl Scranton, St. Anselm and Villanova. St. Anselm is only an hour from Boston and its considered one of the best nursing schools in New England.

@TurnerT my church does not offer volunteers like that - I wish :frowning:
