Check out the Android App I made for fellow Terps!

Hey Guys,

My name is Eric and I am an undergraduate at the University of Maryland. I'm majoring in computer science and I'm currently wrapping up my junior year. A few friends and I got together last semester and made an Android app called TerpMeals. TerpMeals lets you see whats being served for lunch and dinner in the on campus dining halls.

The app is completely free and I thought you guys might like to hear about it!

If you're interested, you can download the app here: <a href="https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ericrose.terpmeals%5B/url%5D">https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ericrose.terpmeals</a></p>

I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Additionally, I'd be happy to answer any questions regarding computer science at UMD.

Eric

Wow this certainly beats the hassle of grabbing those weekly breakdowns…any chance you guys will have this for iOS?

It’s certainly on the to-do list, but we’ve got a few big Android projects in the works right now that are first priority.

Awesome, just downloaded it!

Hey, cool app man. Will definitely be useful if I end up here. What do you think about the CS department at UMD (quality of teachers, quality of program/other students etc)? Also, is there a team feeling among the kids there (I’ve heard this before) or is it competitive? Thanks in advance.

I’m really happy with the CS program here. So far, I’ve thought almost all of my CS professors were excellent. Our department is really highly regarded by a ton of really respectable grad schools and companies, too.

I’ve never really felt any sort of competition among my classmates. Usually, there is more of a team feeling.

Cool, thanks man. Also are there any specific languages/concepts I should learn prior to entering the program that would help me out? I’ve taken APCS A, so I’m proficient with java, but skipped the C++ prerequisite class. I also know python and Objective C(but I doubt they use this in classes). Thanks again.

Aw hell yes, I hate opening the dining services site.

Drummerdawg: I came in to the school knowing a bit of Java, but nothing too impressive and I am doing really well now. There isn’t anything really that I suggest that you learn, but if there is anything you are interested in (android for me), then learning it on your own time will make you very valuable when it comes to applying for jobs/internships.

ThisMortalSoil: Glad you like it! We’ve got some more projects coming out this semester so keep an eye out!
