Check your email - Priceline Hilton cancelled

Just got an email from Priceline - the Hilton is overbooked. The only hotel willing to take the reservation is the Quality Inn in New Castle. Just spent a long time with the unhelpful priceline folks. I've been a huge supporter of priceline and have never had this happen before. Too furious to type more now.

Yes, I just got that call as well. I am also unhappy. Not much we can do about it other than take the Quality Inn but I intend to find one how to complain further. The QI appears to be another 10 minutes away. I had no idea that the hotel could do this. And I cannot believe they could not give us a replacement hotel in Newark. Must be because of the price we paid. I don’t think it’s that they cannot find another hotel to take the reservation. It’s that they aren’t willing to pay anything to get us a closer hotel. I’m sure if we bid enough they could get us a room.

I did manage to get a $10/night off my next stay coupon out of them. Be sure to ask for it if they do not offer.

I was going to say “at least we get free breakfast” – but apparently the QI does not have that!

PS feel free to post on the hotel’s Facebook page - [Hilton Christiana | Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/pages/Newark-DE/Hilton-Christiana/43005148483?ref=ts)

What is it they say, don’t get mad, get even? :-).

PPS perhaps they were unhappy about our sharing our price and restaurant.com coupon information?

Same here! I’m furious. This is unacceptable. I called the Hilton to confirm, after a friend told me her’s was canceled. Hilton gave me the run-around, and told me to call ‘Chris’ tomorrow. As soon as I hung up, Priceline called (from the Philipines) with this news.

The New Castle hotel is not only a 2* (instead of 3*) hotel but it’s about further 5 miles away.

Did they give you the option of a refund? New Castle is a little scary.

Yes, they will let you get a refund but what are yoiu going to do for a hotel then? BTW even if you accept their replacement hotel you can still cancel up to 24 hours in advance.

The New Castle hotel is near the airport. There are somewhat decent reviews on TripAdvisor, but it’s not comparable to the Hilton.
I checked Bing, Kayak, Expedia, and hotel websites just to see if anything decent was available, but no luck. All that’s available are 1 star hotels with terrible ratings and smoking rooms.

I called the Quality Inn to confirm the reservation and request a non-smoking room. At least that wasn’t a problem (hopefully).

same thing happened to us. unbelievable. was loving priceline but not too happy now. It turned out for us that Ds team will be travelling to Lehigh so we werent going to be in Newark the whole weekend anyway since we will be staying near the team to watch them play. i called the number and told them to cancel our room. they told me I would be hearing from another department. it was kind of annoying how clueless the person I spoke to was and how she wouldnt even confirm that i was cancelling the room and that we would receive a refund.

I called the Hilton this morning and spoke to Chris (who apparently has been getting many phone calls and messages). She said that they have a large group of foreigners who have an extended stay, and this week extended their stay some more. According to Chris, the hotel can’t evict in this situation so they had to cancel, not only the priceline reservations but the regular ones as well!

All this, and you would think that at the least, they’d offer coupons for free breakfast or similar, but all she offered was to book with them again at a later date, and they’ll take special care (whatever that means).

I’ve been using Priceline for years, and must have booked 100s of hotel rooms along the way, but never, ever imagined that this would happen. The lesson here is always have a backup plan, that can be canceled at the last minute.

The irony is I did book a room at the Homeward Suites but canceled after the Priceline room went through. Never again!

That being said, I guess I’ll see you all at the Quality Inn Suites.

I almost feel sorry for Chris! Can’t be easy dealing with this kind of thing and crazed people like me!
I’ve also used Priceline for many, many years and never knew that this kind of thing could happen. I will definitely have backup plans in the future. A $10 future credit is in no way adequate compensation. Will have to figure out where they’re headquartered and file a complaint with the attorney general.
I convinced DH (and myself) that we will be ok at the Quality Inn since my CC pals will be staying there. Now we really need to plan to get together!

The $10 credit is only good thru Jan 2010, which in our case, is good for nothing.

Well, I just somehow got a room at the Hampton Inn Newark, AAA rate, and includes breakfast ($103). Before that I found a (handicap accessible) room at the Red Roof Inn for $85 (AAA, it was the only thing available that was non-smoking). I just cancelled the Red Roof, so if anyone wants that room, you may be able to snag it.

If you check Katak or Bing every so often, different listings keep coming and going. When I called to comfirm HI, they said they are booked, but there must have just been a cancellation when I made my request.

In all honesty, I am not happy with Priceline or Hilton, but I’ll still continue to do Priceline.

I agree handemom. I was very unhappy to receive the email cancelling the room from priceline, but for us it worked out since my husband and i will be leaving newark early Saturday morning to follow D’s team to Lehigh. It turned out that we didnt need the saturday night room anyway only a Friday night room. We did decide to leave here on thursday after work because my husband decided he’d like to go to a class or two w/D on Friday so, once again, I tried to priceline thing (even though I was not happy with them). I got a room for Thursday night at the Courtyard Marriott (the one near the Hilton-not on campus) for $45.00. So as you said Hande, despite this problem I will continue if I can get rooms for $45.00 and hopefully as most of you have said, that was a glitch and usually doesnt happen.

Just wanted to say that my son decided to come home this weekend instead of having us attend DelaWorld, so I called the Christiana Hilton and cancelled the 2 rooms I had previously booked. Hope they go to some of you! Have fun …

So we stayed at the Quality Inn. It wasn’t all that inconvenient, it was maybe 15-20 minutes straight on Rt 273, which turns into Main Street in Newark (not that much longer than from the Hilton). I had read that the new building was much nicer than the old buildings, which are the old style “park in front of your room” motel. I should have called in advance to ask to be put in the new building, and given that they had me preassigned to a room I did not feel like asking to be moved. It certainly was not as nice as the Hilton, but it was acceptable for what I paid.
