Checking in!!

Hi USC folks.
I'm just checking in here to say that I continue to read this thread and to send folks your way. I do believe that USC is a real rising star.

As the old timers recall...DD's second choice was USC (she is at Santa Clara U). But I'm checking in to say hi and give an update. DD is now a junior and has declared as an engineering major with a concentration in bioengineering. It's a tough course of study, but she is excited about it. She continues to work as a student ambassador, and is the statistician for both the hockey and lacrosse teams. She is playing in the orchestra and continuing to take oboe lessons with a new teacher this year. I have to say she is very happy.

I want to say to the new folks...our daughter LOVED USC. In the end, it was the large size that was the final thing that made her choose a smaller school. She felt (and we did too) that everyone at USC made the applications and admissions process an excellent one. The contact from both faculty and students was ongoing and sincere. There wasn't one question that didn't get answered. When DD wasn't able to attend the scholars weekend, they made arrangments for her to have her "own" weekend a couple of weeks later. Even when she wrote admissions with her decision to go elsewhere, they were gracious and wrote her a wonderful letter wishing her well, and telling her that they would hold her admission for one year in the event she wanted to come there. We all felt they were a "class act" from start to finish.

I'm sure all of the other class of 2010 students are doing well. Best wishes to the new applicants and the current students.

Good to hear from you Thumper! Glad DD is doing well and is looking forward to her new course of study. My son is now a soph at USC - 2nd year Capstone program. He absolutely loves USC and has really enjoyed the engineering courses. He's rooming in South Quad with 3 other engineering majors - two were friends from last year in Capstone. He's found a niche in a couple of clubs and is very happy. USC has been the perfect choice for him.

S is now third year sports Management and totally immersed in his dep't, while balancing that coursework with Honors College dabblings. He is a student manager for the dep't November Sports Management conference which brings in industry people and academics. He will also stay on in May after classes are over to help with the North American Society for Sport Management(NASSM) conference which is being held in Columbia in conjunction with USC's dep't. He did his practicum this past summer working his tail off for a minor league baseball team, earning little but learning lots. He's working on securing a three week summer experience with a football team during their training camp and then some free time to travel. He moved off campus with 3 friends to an apt complex thats all college kids. His costs are lower per month than in the on campus apts, with luxuries like a washer dryer and dishwasher!
He continues to have a stellar experience there, and we have only good things to say about any contact we've had with administrative or academic offices. He's been challenged by Honors classes and found some wonderful professors and mentors.
And of course, the merit money opportunity was second to none!
