Checking our stuff

Hello! I know that Cornell asks for specific watts drawn by the mini-fridges and all, so how strict are they on these things? For example, would they check my fridge to see if it meets the requirements? Do they do that, if at all, for other things? Thanks!

Well, they have a fire hazard inspection some time during the beginning of the semester (once per semester). I had an extension chord that was not allowed…they left a little note and took the chord. They generally tell you when they will coming to check your room. If they see something that is not allowed they will take it/say something. If it’s hidden, they will never know. With that said, I am not sure how strict they are about fridges and you definitely cannot hide it during the inspection lol I would try to get a fridge that is very close to the allowed watts.

Um… I think some of the dorms have individual circuit breakers for each room so if you bring a fridge that is overrated it might just trip it if you plug it in. I’ve never used a mini fridge but I’ve tripped the circuit before with other things lol.

Thank you both for answering! I guess I’ll just plug it in and check if anything happens. Hopefully, it’s alright, or else I just wasted money :frowning: Just out of curiosity, but would anyone know if the circuit breakers are in the low rises? Just throwing it out there ^_^

I was in LowRise 6. I probably shoulda mentioned that. I’m pretty sure LR7 was built in the same year with similar if not identical setups.
