Cheerleading as an EC?

Hi, I’m a sophomore and I’ve been cheering since elementary school. My main EC is cheerleading right now, and I’m worried it’s not going to look great on college applications, especially since I don’t intend continuing after college. Cheer takes up so much of my time, and so I’m not able to be fully committed to other activities.

About me & cheerleading:
Dedication Award (16-17)
All American (17-18), and I assumed I will get it 18-19 and 19-20 since I got it this year
Probably going to be captain next year and senior year

I cheer fall and winter seasons (late June through early March). For winter, my school has a competition team and a non-competition team. Getting onto competition team is competitive, and I’m one of the girls on it.

Do you think this will be a good EC for admissions or should I try to devote more time to another EC? I have other activities, but I’m not as committed as I am with cheer.

If you enjoy cheerleading then stick with it, if you want to do something else that is fine as well.

If you think about sports, there are probably people that are on cross country, indoor track and track and field.
Or in marching band, concert band and jazz band.

That being said, unless you are going to continue cheerleading in college, I would add some other ECs.

The first thing I would look at is some service opportunities. Do you belong to a church? there are some there.
There may be service clubs.

Cheerleading will look good because

  1. it is an athletic activity
  2. You have stuck with it a long time and become very proficient at it
  3. You have gained leadership skills
