What do you think?

It is an EC. Whether it is an outstanding one might depend on whether you or the team won any national awards or tournaments and/or if you were team captain.

If your HS career includes sideline and competitive cheer for multiple years, my guess is most colleges realize the rigor involved. What was the extent of your involvement?

A season or two of sideline cheer isn’t going to wow anyone. 8 seasons of combined sideline & competitive, plus multiple seasons on the varsity squad and perhaps individual all-district or all-league honors – may indicate something else.

Even so, is it “outstanding”? I recall you’re applying to some very selective schools. Given that fact, it’s akin to others who have solid commitment to sports.

One EC is not better, or more outstanding, than any other EC. What makes something outstanding is a student’s commitment to that activity. FWIW: My daughter spent 4 years as “the flyer” on her high school cheer squad, attended several summer cheer camps where she won numerous awards, and submitted a small portfolio of cheer photos with her application, including one where she was standing in pirouette on the palm of someone’s hand that was raised above his head. She’s now a senior at Crimsonred.

I agree with T26E4. My DD is a on a varsity squad and a competitive club cheer team. When I talked to an Assoc. Dean at one of the top business schools, he recognized her commitment and that she would not have time for many of the other clubs at schools. She practices or competes 6 and sometimes 7 days for close to 20 hours a week. Her grades actually improved after she started cheering. With the tight schedule, she plans better for homework and test.
