CHEM 101/102 Placement Test

I am an incoming freshman in Bioengineering and would like to place out of CHEM 101/102. I registered for the placement tests in the fall and had a couple questions.

Does anyone have any experience with these tests (difficulty, how to study, etc.)? I have a 5 in AP Chemistry and can dedicate the next month to self studying.

Do you really need the Oxtoby chemistry book that they recommend for studying? I have Brown/Lemay.

How is taking the labs 53/54 on their own?

If i decide to go to medical school is it that bad to have to take a year of upper level chemistry on top of the orgo?

Thanks

No experience with the tests, though I don’t know many who passed out.

You might need to have some experience with the quantum stuff.

53/54 are essentially separate from 101/102. You do labs at a different pace than when you learn the material in lecture. Also, they are completely separate grades regardless of whether or not you take 101/102. You learn everything you need for 53/54 in the lab lectures. The material is very basic anyway.

You’ll probably take a year of pchem to compensate not taking 101/102. pchem is a lot harder. 101/102 would be easy A’s if you would have placed out anyway and take the non majors section.
