Do we go through every single chapter & section in the Moore textbook?
Regarding reading, will the Moore Study Guide suffice or is it recommended to read the actual textbook?
Are labs graded? Or is our grade mostly determined by tests/quizzes?

Bump please

The more i think about it, I hesitate to buy the Chem 1a book, for two reasons

1) you get the ebook with the OWL

2) Dont we need a different book for Chem 3a? The Chem 1a book is expensive for just one semister

you go thru most of the first 20 or so chapters.. i dont remember wquite clearly.

Hm, urd0rkk, did you guys have the same book as us (by Moore)? The book only has 22 chapters or so, so that would mean we pretty much cover the whole book through the semester? :O

More comments/answers to my original questions will be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Yes you basically cover the entire book. However, Chem 1A is quite cursory, you don't go very much in depth in the topics.

I recommend knowing everything discussed in lecture. The background information in the book may be useful too. I did not buy a study guide and got through the course just fine.

The course is graded by the following for last year-- things may change!
3 midterms (80pts each)
1 final (240pts)
Prelab, lab carbon copy notes in course, lab questions, two formal lab writeups
OWL homework
final project
discussion quiz
