Hi, I am a HSAA at UF. Biology major... for now at least. I got pretty much all of my gen ed classes out of way with my AA, so all that's left for me to take is all the "hard" classes. I was thinking of taking Chem 1 (no lab, just lecture; already took did well; long story), Calc 1, and Bio 1 for spring semester. Do you think that is too much for someone to handle at once? I took AP bio in hs and did pretty well.

Also, I was interested in taking apk2100c (anatomy) instead of bio. But from what I've heard, anatomy is just as difficult as bio, it's just that i am more interested in anatomy (and im a bio major lol....). But bio seems to be a pre req for a lot of the 3000 level classes I need to take.

I feel like taking these classes at once just seems like the only option (reminder: im done with gen ed, just need core classes now) or ill be in school forever.

Thanks in advance.

Honestly thats not bad at all. I dont know how good you are at math but if you have a background of calculus, then Calc 1 will be a breeze. I took AP Calc in highschool and got over 100 on all the exams, bombed the final because i didnt bother to study and still got an A. However it is a lot of busy work as there are discussion quizzes, hw, webassign. SO its kind of a pain in the ass. I also dont know if you are good at chemistry but Chem 1 is a weedout course. They really want you to pay attention and understand the material. So you definitely have to put in the time to get a good grade. I had Mitchell and even though he can be mean and loud, he predominately writes the exams and has really good slides. If not Mitchell, then I would take Gower. There are online quizzes and webassign. Bio 1 isnt too bad. Smokin Notes helps a ton and reviewing bioportal quizzes and clicker questions. I barely read the book since I took AP bio it was a sort of refresher course. Only bad part is that there are three profs, so you dont know the way they’re gonna word a question until exam day. There are bioportal quizzes but they are doable. To conclude, I think you should be fine and like you said you need these courses in order to take higher level courses so it makes sense to get them out of the way. Just make sure you have the time and not bogged down with a lot of extracurriculars that will distract you. Anatomy from what I heard is a lot of memorization and reviewing and overall way more involved/difficult than Bio, so just keep that in mind.
