Chem Honors

I am not sure what you mean. You speak a lot about schools that are reaches for everybody. My suggestion is to also include safeties and matches.

For any schools reaches, targets, and a good amount of safeties? @twogirls

Yes that’s a good mix.

OP you keep pushing the “it won’t matter” phrase and this thread is now going around the houses. IF your goal is tippy top MIT / CalTech level then on the course load side they expect you to challenge yourself and to be able to handle a lot of science and math- as a baseline. They expect you to also do well in your other academic classes and do ECs that are meaningful. Go read the MIT admissions blogs- they are really clear (start here: https://mitadmissions.org/blogs/entry/applying_sideways/).

It’s not that your course selection “doesn’t matter”- it’s that one course out of a transcript won’t be the make-or-break for an admissions decision. Moreover, the end point matters: you are ending up with AP Chem, yes? Talk to your GC: will s/he tick the ‘most rigorous’ box on your application? if so, then let.it.go.

@collegemom3717 Thanks so much. I’m going to visit schools and make a list (yes, there are some ivies and other great schools) but I also have some match liberal arts schools like W&L, Colgate, Bucknell, etc, and I have safeties like Georgia, South Carolina, LSU and more. I really like my safeties and might want to see more, bc I like these schools and if I don’t get into selective schools, I can be happy ab my safeties.

Washington & Lee and Colgate are not match schools. Georgia and South Carolina are not safeties. The middle 50% ACT for SC is 25-30. You don’t have test scores yet…how do you know it’s a safety?

@twogirls These are just Schools I like. I’m just looking at them because of acceptance rates. I’m taking the SAT in November and I’m studying for two subject tests I’m taking at a different hs in August. I want to score at least a 1520-1530 on SAT and 33-34 on ACT, if possible.

@momofsenior1 So don’t worry about it, even if I am going to be an environmental science major?

What will worrying do? What’s done is done. As I, and many others have said, one class will not make or break. It’s unhealthy to stress over things that you cannot control or change.

I talked to my guidance counselor and she said that she could not even put Chem Honors in my schedule because I needed to take a history class and there was only one honors class so… I think if I either explain about it or not, I think I will be fine???

Sry for anyone having to deal with me, I just want to major in Environmental Science and I am going to take some dual enrollment science classes to help make up for it. I just couldn’t fit it into my schedule at all???

@twogirls

Your guidance counselor already explained that she could not put you in honors because of a scheduling conflict.

You will be fine.

I might discuss about it in the additional information section @twogirls

That’s fine…or your guidance counselor can mention it. Just be sure to include safety and match schools.

@twogirls Thanks so much. I’m looking into some matches and safeties that I truly enjoy and I would really just be fine no matter where I go to school. I just wanna get into the best one I can

I know u guys might think I’m crazy but do u think this will matter if I’m looking into Ecology/Evolutionary Biology?

Are you asking if not taking honors chemistry will matter for the majors you reference above?

Yes @twogirls in the admissions process

No it will not matter. Just make sure you have some safety and match schools on your list.
