Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is in LSA?

My D is planning to apply to UIUC and some other schools. Her intended major is Chemical Engineering. We have scheduled a campus visit in 2 weeks. She just received the booklet from UIUC yesterday and realize the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering is not listed under College of Engineering but LSA. But on the web, it is listed under engineering. So should she apply to CoE or LSA? We also signed up for the College of Engineering visit. I guess we can ask at that time too.

The program is an ABET accredited Engineering program, and is one of the top programs in the country. You apply to the program, not the College of LAS. Having said that, please air your questions at the Engineering visit. They would be happy to answer.

We will sure do. We know their ChemE program is good. We are just confused to see that not listed under the College of Engineering on the booklet. Thanks.

Bill, it’s because Chem historically has been part of LAS, and the engineering program grew out of that.

I see. Now I got it.

Did the COE tour last month, though interesting it did little to address our questions or give insight into the ChemE program. We kept being deferred back to LSA.
