Chemical Engineering at UW Seattle or Twin Cities?

What are the differences between getting an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering at University of Washington Seattle vs University of Minnesota Twin Cities? Are there advantages to one school over the other? What makes that school's program better?

Cost is not an issue in this scenario.

It appears like UMN has a bigger and better funded Chemical Engineering department. On the other hand UW has started offering [NME option](Nanoscience and Molecular Engineering | UW Chemical Engineering) which is somewhat unique. If you find this interesting then I would give the edge to UW.

No brainer… UMinn for Chem Engg… always been very strong … the main bldg is named after a former Prod Amundsen… father of modern Chem Engg.

Check out the Chem Engg rankings from any major poll/website - Times, US News, Shanghai, etc… UMinn is always ranked in the top 5 in the US… for the last 30 years or so.

Another hint…check out the education of the Chem Engg faculty of places like MIT, Stanford, Caltech, GTech, etc… you will always have folks who did their PhDs from UMinn.
Good luck !

UMinn’s ChemE was #3-#4 in the last couple years. However, it is very competitive to get into the program. Other engineering programs are good but not in that range of ranking in the country. So you may need to consider if you cannot get into ChemE.
