Chemical Engineering

How difficult is it to get into the Chemical Engineering program at U of M? I just want to get a general idea, so if an accepted student could speak of their qualifications that would be very helpful. If there is already a website/ CC thread discussing this matter, I would also appreciate a link to this.

My brief stats:
-GPA: 4.0 UW
-ACT: 30 (retook & am waiting for my scores, should be better)
-Valedictorian
-Will have ~30 college credits from dual enrollment
-Participated in a science summer program (2013), and will be participating in an engineering summer program (2014)- both of these programs are 100% lab based
-Quite a few EC's & leadership positions
-I place well at the regional and state level for my EC's, will be completing nationally this summer

Btw, I am a reciprocity student.

Do I even have a chance at this program? The college as a whole I might, but the chemical engineering program is ranked third in the country I believe....

I was admitted this year and I would say numerically you’re above me. I had a 4.1 W and 3.88 UW at the time of applying. Also got a 29 on the ACT. I had lots of EC’s, football, basketball, and baseball. Student government, clubs, NHS, and Boy’s State also. I had nothing science based what so ever and I was admitted with the Gold National Scholarship. You’ll be fine. Anyway you are not admitted to your major, but to the College of Science and Engineering. You must apply for your major your sophomore year. You are automatically admitted with a 3.2 technical GPA, meaning math and science courses only count toward your GPA.

Ok, thank you so much! I really like the thought of not having to travel very far for a top notch education, so U of M is sitting at the top of my list! I hope I get in; my counselor is kind of discouraging…

Good luck to you!!!
