Chemistry 1 Honors FLVS

How is chemistry honors on flvs? Is it difficult? Work intensive? Thanks

I’ve done it. I would not recommend it. It took me about 10 months from start to finish (way longer than it should have).

It is not fun to teach yourself an applied math/science class online, at least it wasn’t for me. What grade are you in? As long as you take Chem 1 H by the end of junior year, you should be on track to take at least 1 AP science class in high school, not counting Physics 1, which usually doesn’t have any prerequisites except concurrent enrollment in or completion of Algebra 2.

@r2v2018 I’m in 10th. I was planning on taking AP Biology Junior year and AP Physics 1 Senior year. I have friends that are in AP Bio now and are doing fine without having taken chemistry. The chemistry teachers at my school don’t teach at all so either way I’m teaching myself, at least online it’s a guaranteed A basically. I was just wondering if colleges will care or not that I haven’t taken chemistry. If it’s ok to not take chemistry I was gonna drop it and take AP human geo. on flvs instead. Btw, I’m taking AICE Marine Science right now, which is the same as AP but they have more specialized classes. I took Earth Space Science in 8th grade so I have my physical science credit as well.

It’s generally not a good idea for someone who plans on taking any science classes in college to skimp out on the holy trinity of sciences (Bio, Chem, and Physics), so I would recommend taking chemistry at some point. Furthermore, there is a biochemistry unit of AP Biology in which a strong background in chemistry is beneficial. My school actually has an Honors Chemistry prerequisite for AP Biology, but I’m aware this is different elsewhere.

Also, I would definitely take Chemistry 1 Honors over APHG. Even though it is an AP course, I would venture to guess that AP Human Geography is actually less impressive than taking one of each of the three main sciences, preferably at the Honors level or better. Just be aware that learning a physical science/applied math subject online is not pleasant at all.
