I was wondering if I need to take Chemistry in highschool. I am able to graduate without it. 8th grade I took Earth Space Science Honors, 9th I took Biology Honors, 10th (current grade) I’m in AICE Marine Science(college level, it’s a really interesting class). I also was in Chemistry Honors as well but the teacher is horrible so I switched out to take it online, but then I was thinking… do I even need to do this? I plan on taking AP Bio junior year and AP Physics 1 senior year . I guess my question is… will colleges care that I did not take chemistry in highschool? I plan on majoring in Biology in college. I don’t think I’m gonna be able to remember things from Chem anyways in 3 years so I don’t think it makes a difference.I want to go to either UF or USF. Also, if I drop chemistry, I was going to take AP Human Geography on flvs because I heard it’s easy and with a prep book you have a good chance at a 4 or 5.

If nothing else, selective colleges like UF will care than AP Human is an easier class than Chemistry. They do consider your class “rigor”. Even with taking AP Human, you may meet the minimum requirements for admissions to UF (3 natural sciences, with at least 2 units of Labs), but you want to do better than the minimum to get accepted.

If you want to major in Biology, it’s best to take some chemistry in High School, as it will better prepare you for chemistry in college (even if you don’t remember much).

You should assume that if you’ve heard it’s easy, that every AO in the country knows that too. Additionally, APHG is considered a social science, not a natural science.

Regardless of whether it’s important for college admissions (and I’d say it is), you do not want to take your very first chemistry course in college, and as a bio major, you will need to take chem in college.

If you plan to be any sort of a STEM major in college you should take a sequence of bio, chem, and physics in HS. AP Human Geography is not a substitute for chemistry.

You need to take bio, chem, and physics in HS + one AP from one of these if possible, if you’re aiming for a STEM major.
Intro bio, chem, and physics classes are weedout - which means the class is designed to “cut” a certain number of students. Almost everybody in the class will have taken the class in HS and often will have taken Level 2 in that subject (AICE, IB, or AP). Guess who’s cut first?.. whoever’s discovering the subject and is two years behind.

You can take AP HG as an elective in addition to chemistry but it does not replace Chemistry.

Yes. If you want to take AP Biology, then you need to also take Chemistry, since it is a Prerequisite for that course. Trust me on that. I have memorized the whole Program of Studies book, so that I have all of my options open.
