Chemistry 20A/B

Hello everyone,

I know there are a few posts concerning the 20 series for chemistry, but I wanted to make this post to address all the issues.

First, how different is the 6th edition from the 7th edition for the Principles of Modern Chemistry. Does the difference justify paying $100.00 more for the latter, or should we just purchase the 6th edition and save the money.

Second, how important is a solutions manual? Is it worth purchasing? And how much extra should we be looking to pay for it?

Third, for Scerri, how much is the course reader so that I know what to expect.

And finally, should I purchase Scerri's book that he wrote? Its on Amazon for $6.00 but will it prove helpful to me in 20A?

As always thank you in advance for your time and I hope you all have a good day.

The Student Solutions Manual is just like any other SSM. IT has the answer to just the odds, which are also found in the back of the book. But, unless you are a genius, it shows you how to do the problem step by step with explanations. You tend to learn alot if you actually use it.
6th vs 7th aren’t the same. but if saving a few bucks floats your boat, that’s your call. You can buy and SELL books/bundles @ [PostYourBook.com – UCLA Students](http://postyourbook.com/UCLA/) for way cheaper than the UCLA store. SO in the end you could spend 180 but sell it for 130. or buy the bundle 130 and sell 130. Be resourceful,
And course readers tend to be around $50, as they are just bounded copies of what the teacher wants into one book.
Why not buy it if its 6 dollars?

Honestly, you probably don’t have to buy any of those. Scerri always puts all that stuff down, but you never even need to touch them for his class. He even says so himself.

Just make sure to buy the coursereader for this class and memorize that and get an A.

does anyone know if gelbart requires the textbook/coursereader for 20A?
