Chemistry Flop

I'm really interested in joining a UC or Cal State right after high school. I just recently finished my Junior year of high school with a 3.5 and I have almost completed all my a-g requirements (the ones that aren't completed will be taken my senior year). I passed my first semester of Chemistry with a C+ but my second semester of Chemistry didn't go so well. I went from a B- to a D in a week and when I realized the dramatic drop I panicked. Do UC's and Cal States automatically disqualify you from their admissions if you get a D? Chemistry was supposed to be my 2nd year of Laboratory science. I did join AP Environmental Science for my senior year. If I do well in that class will they look at it as my a-g requirement? Or can I take the SAT Subject test for Chemistry to show that I do have the potential to understand the subject? HELP.

Getting a D will not automatically disqualify you, however the D means the class will not count towards the 2 year requirement for the UC system. Your choices are to retake the class, satisfy the requirement in a different subject, or get a qualifying score on the Chem subject test. This is all well explained on the UC admissions website. You should also be working with your HS counselor who is there to help you with questions like this.
