Chemistry Placement Test

did anyone take that already?
and how was it?
does anyone know if u start taking chem 10 instead of chem2a, do u still have to take the test?
if not, then how about the next quarter when u finished taking chem 10 and starting to take chem 2a?

Ehhh, you're going head over heels about this stuff. Just relax and take the experience as it comes to you. You're asking all these questions about SA as if you dont want to enjoy the program when you get there. It's a lot of fun, the tests are not absurdly difficult, and you'll survive.

You'll get all the info when you get there and you can talk to your friends in your group about this stuff. Just chill out and just enjoy the experience when you get to Davis..

well...i am not going to SA
that's why i am asking..
and i am hoping to get an answer here?
from someone that has the experience?

Eh, thats why you had ALL of these questions. My apologies.

To actually be of some help I never took a straight up chem class and I passed into 2A, so its pretty easy. I also know that for some majors(mine, for example) you need to take the placement tests for that major and if you cant make it at SA you'll have to take them in September at the start of school.

So my advice is to not jeopardize your interests and to just take the test next month and pass into 2A. Also, I think if you got a 5 on the AP you fulfill the credit for 2A altogether..

(Heh, I kept wondering what was wrong with you asking this barrage of questions all over the place. Makes sense now...Cheers)

uhhuh...thanks for ur reply..
but actually...
i would like to know the how the format of the test it is...
like what topics are included...

I have SA tmrw and I have never taken a chem class. On the Chemistry department website they state everything a person can be testes on.

Im just going to review sparknotes chemistry.

Can anyone post what tipics they found on the test and what were the most common?

Thanks

I don't know what all that chem 10 buisness is about.. I don't remember hearing about anyone taking it before. (and I'm going to be a 4th year chem major) I wouldn't fret about taking the chem placement test.. when I took it, most of it was just math problems involving counting. Even if you don't manage to pass it, chem 2a would be do-able for someone with no chem background. The learning skills center on campus is a wonderful place that offers 'co-classes' which are just extra classes that help you along in your real class.

Chem 10 is a basic survey of Chemistry and is designed for non-science majors. It is a GE (general education) course that helps satisfy science/eng breadth requirement.

It's not intended as a preparation course for Chem 2A. Chem 2A (or 2AH honors) are requirements for all science and engineering majors.

More information about the Chemistry diagnostic exam is at this web-site
http://lsc.ucdavis.edu/diagnostic_exams.html

My son thought it was a cinch, however he's a math and science whiz.

is the test mutiple choice format?

ah.. no wonder I never heard of anyone taking chem 10, everyone I know are science majors.. and then the non science majors try to avoid chem :).

Yes the test is multiple choice ... scantron.

what if u pass the chem placement test but there are no place for chem 2a anymore?

chem 2a is offered both fall and winter quarters. So, if you have to take it, you don't have to take it in the fall - you can take it in the winter (but it'll just put you a quarter behind the majority of people)
