I'm a freshman in a high school in Southern CA... (And sorry if this is the wrong forum)
I'm taking Algebra II and Biology Honors right now for math/science, and I started thinking about summer school. I'm friends with some sophomores who took chemistry over the summer at a CC and are taking Biology AP. Is this a good idea? Would it raise my chance to get accepted into good colleges at all? If I do this, the APs I would be taking next year are World History (supposed to be harder than UPUSH at our school) and Biology. Then I would be taking AP Chem junior year, and AP physics (possibly) during senior year. Basically, would 1 extra AP be helpful?

Also, I'm wondering if it was possible to take pre-calculus over the summer at a CC, and move on to Calculus during my sophomore year. If I do this, would I have to go into Calculus AB or Calculus BC next year (I'm thinking I might have to ask my councilor about this)? Would you recommend this?

Finally, if I had to choose between AP Bio and AP Calculus next year, which one should I chose?

I self-studied Pre-Calc for two weeks, aced the class final, and went directly to BC Calc. You don’t need to pay $5,000 to a summer program to help you read a book.

If you want to get into a good college, you need to take AP Bio AND AP Calculus. But if your school only allows you to take one, I’d go with calc.

oh i’m guessing i wrote this in the wrong forum…
I was going to go to a community college over the summer to learn all this. And I’m a freshman so I will take both but I was asking which one to take next year. Oh well I decided I’m probably gonna take WHAP and Bio. Thx Anyways!

One last question: Does it help alot to be taking more APs than usual students (i mean usual smart ppl)? Smart sophomores usually just take WHAP during their sophomore year, but I know this guy who is taking bio, whap, compsci, chinese, and calc BC. And I’m trying to take whap and bio. Will this help me or will the colleges think that people usually take whap and bio? (i’ll probably be like one of only 2~3 sophs that do this).

If you’re choosing AP Bio or AP Calc for Sophomore year, AP Bio. Finish Pre-Calc sophomore year, spend junior and senior year finishing up AB and BC.

To tell you the truth, it doesn’t really matter. I mean the more you learn the better you are prepared for college. You might know what you want to major in or you might not. But as the more the merrier. The more education you learn in HS, the easier it will be on you at the university of your choice. Colleges don’t really care if you have more APs or not. Just that you are excelling in your classes you have taken. So if you feel you need to skip Precalc and go into APBC, then go for it.
