I want to take a little survey: If you were choosing between UChicago and Swarthmore which would be your first choice? Why?

Haha, yeah, seems like a common choice to be making. I'd go with UChicago, because after 2 years at a small LAC I want to go to a university, and actually in a city is a plus. But the two are so alike both in student body and in academics that this question is almost entirely "urban university or suburban liberal arts college?"

chicago - where there is more diversity of political thought (according to the guide books).

I would choose Chicago. No way I can stay cooped up in a remote LAC. I need city life.

swarthmore isn't exactly remote, unless you consider the 11 mile trip to philly "remote." just a thought.

chicago.

I like the city and the school better.

Personally, I would NOT go to Swarthmore, but that has 100% to do with the fact that I've lived in the Philly suburbs my entire life and want to get out. I have no idea how I'd feel about Swat if I were from somewhere else.

"swarthmore isn't exactly remote, unless you consider the 11 mile trip to philly "remote." just a thought."

Hmm, I was under the impression that Swarthmore was at least a half-hour from the city. I guess that Swat is an exception to the typical LAC. Anyways, my choice is still Chicago--Swarthmore never appealed to me.

Well y'all who think they're equal or UChicago wins out: ya know how people say small LACs teach critical thinking better than universities? Do you think that's true of Swat and UChicago?

"Hmm, I was under the impression that Swarthmore was at least a half-hour from the city."

The two aren't mutually exclusive. There is a lot of area that is TECHNICALLY Philadelphia, but is definitely not center city. I live rather thoroughly within Philly city limits, but it's still a 15 minute drive to Center City.
