Chicago Letter + Newspaper

I'm sure many of the 2013 Admits got this letter and newspaper subscription from Chicago. Anyone else get the phone call from one of their students to congratulate you and answer any questions?

For those of you who've been admitted to other schools already, whether it be EA, rolling, etc. have any of the other schools attempted to court you as much as Chicago has?

I got the newspaper and the phone call. I found the person on the call to be pretty poorly informed, and a bad conversationalist. Maybe they were tired, idk. The paper was worthless. I would much rather have the student paper. I also got a calendar. OH, and I got the financial aid estimate. I tell you what, if they really wanted to court me, then they would have just given me a little bit more money, and cut out all the worthless paper and phone calls.

I got into Georgetown. Their phone call was more friendly, but just as worthless. I don't have questions ready for someone who calls during finals week. I actually told the guy that unless he knows a lot about macroeconomics then I really don't want to talk to him. He laughed and said that he would love to help but he had other calls to make, and gave me his email address. Georgetown's christmas card was really cool. It was personalized with best wishes pertaining to the information I gave on my application. I was impressed.

I am basically torn between the two, and that will remain the story until I hear from everyone else in April. Every couple weeks I switch my preference between gtown and uchicago. Right now i'm favoring Georgetown. Probably it's cold where I live and I don't want to think about spending 4 years in frigid Chicago. idk, it'll swing back in a week.

i love chicago...it really feels like a home!

i would be glad to go there (i got in EA) but im waiting on harvard and yale

Well, no one has sent me as much stuff, but Notre Dame did invite me to an expenses-paid Reilly Weekend visit.

So financially Chicago would be second, but in terms of actual things sent, they have a big lead.

I like getting stuff from Chicago. Especially the hand-written note at Christmas time.

Yup, D has gotten handwritten notes, a phone call, calendar, newspaper -- and disappointing financial aid letter. Maybe they were trying to soften the blow.

yea, i got the phone call too, and it was THE most awkward converation ever because he caught me in the middle of a Xmas party.....

him: hi, i'm a current student at UChicago, do you have any questions?....blahblah
me: (chewing on some cookies) uh, not really.
him: none at all?
me: uh, not presently
him: well, can i give you our number so you can call anytime if you have questions?
me: SURE! (waaay too happily)
him: (tells me the number)
me: ok thanks! (trying to get off the phone)
him: ok well, before i go, any last minute questions?
me: uhh...how's the weather?
him: um, cold, but depends on where you're from.

and i got the calender. lol.
