It is great, that's why I picked it over UMich where they do have a bit better of a film program. I figured, they have the Chicago International Film Festival, they have theatre all over the city, and it's just pretty :)
I didn't want to be stuck in small-town Michigan anymore. lol

Chicago does have a film society, but not much in production classes that gets one ready for working on a set. It looks like grad film school is the only option if I can't transfer somewhere.

Chicago has a very robust Cinema and Media Studies program in which one can concentrate. It also has the Film Studies Center, with, I believe, one of the worlds largest collections of film available for research and study.

I really dislike Jerry. Somethings he can't control such as our decisions being made, but how many times has he said he was going to post the next day and not posted? Granted I have stopped believing him a while ago and had no real expectations, but it's still annoying.

Jerry seems to be a habitual b.s.er. I've known a few people like this. I don't understand them, to be honest.

For example, in Jerry's mind, saying, "I will confirm the details and then post a response tomorrow evening," might be the same as saying "I will confirm the details and then [try to] post a response tomorrow evening."

He probably expects you to infer that it is not a promise or even a high priority. And yes, I agree, it's extremely annoying. Especially since he's done it almost every time he's said something. I think his only priority at this point is transitioning to his new job at IIT.

And I am beginning to suspect, more and more, that the entire problem with admissions was probably just a problem with Jerry. He was responsible for the imaging system, after all.

man for a while there, prob. due to a mental lapse on my part, I was thinking you were talking about Ted O'Neill... and then then when I read the IIT thing I was just thinking: "ohh no he's leaving!!!!" - but then I re-read it lol....

The program at UChicago is inflated intellectual rubbish when it comes to training in film. If I wanted to master Jeopardy questions about film history of the silent era and about foreign film masters of the 30s and 40s, I'd sign up for Chicago's Cinema Studies course immediately. But I've checked out those sites and there is nothing the school offers by way of quality training in "current" film studies such as production courses and editing, etc. I got stuck between a rock and a hard place when NU rejected me. My hope lies in transfering to NU or USC or BU.

Duh, The College has a liberal arts cirriculum. If you went into CMST thinking you'd get experience in production then it's your own fault. We have no performance majors at all. No music, no art, no theatre. It's also why we don't offer, say, business, journalism, photography, or engineering degrees in the College.

If you want to go into film studies then the program at Chicago is great, one of the best. If you want to go into film production, then I wouldn't major in CMST. Rather, I'd try to get involved with the various student film organizations on campus, like Doc or Fire Escape.
