My Northwestern deadline is June 15th. If bball's was the same, I doubt he can get an extension with them.

So the question remains, have you decided on NU?

Has anyone heard any information about when waitlisted applicants may hear back? I'm turning Chicago down, but I'd still like to know when I could expect that email or phone call.

Not before July, is the last I heard. Vague, I know.

But, kjanebarnum.... If you are sure you will turn Chicago down, why not call and ask to take your name off the waitlist? That would help some of us who are still hopeful. :-) But if you do have a reason to stay on, do what's best for you.

johnM is right - why wouldn't you take your name off?

Probably to see if he/she can ultimately get in to UChicago. An understandable decision, but it really hurts people like me. UChicago is my 1st choice by far (I've rejected colleges because I'm waiting for Chicago), and I may not even go to NU even if I get in simply because UChicago is my final choice. Of course this is the part where they have to choose me, and that becomes less likely with applicants who still stay in the waitlist even though they aren't going to attend.

It just hurts :(

Ack, that's rough. :(

But in the end, if their accepted waitlisters don't accept their offers of admission, wouldn't they keep going down the list until their classes were full?

That's my thinking exactly, so correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not really hurting anyone.

Perhaps they would, but still that would delay the whole process. Let's say they notify you July 1st and you have 2 weeks to send your deposit. They won't go on with the list before the middle of July. In my case, if I were to get accepted to NU I would have a deadline to meet. If I decide to enroll and send my deposit, and then I hear from Chicago (my 1st choice) and learn that I am accepted 2 weeks later, I will have two choices:
*Go to NU, which isn't my 1st choice, or
*Choose Chicago and have my deposit wasted.
Either way I am in a loss. Of course this is all presuming that I get in to both schools, which I doubt I will.

Like I said, I understand your decision and I'm sure there are many more out there that are doing the same thing. You also paid the application fee and have the right to do whatever. Good luck next year.

(you should watch My Name is Earl though)

There is also the "you never know" factor. So don't feel bad about staying on the waitlist.

Like "you never know, they might give you a full ride!"

Yeah, unlikely... But you never know. hehehe. :)

I guess.

But unfortunately, I do know that I won't get a full ride as I am an international transfer student and they openly state that they don't give ANY aid to us :(

Makes you wonder. I can finish at Baruch with a solid GPA in the 1st semester of my Junior year with the rate I'm going. And a regular year here is 4K...:/ Oh well, there really isn't a point in thinking about this in this stage of the game.

Thanks for the encouraging words though :)

Did you try applying for finaid anyway, jacknjill? You wouldn't have anything to lose.

These institutions sometimes say things that they are willing to budge on sometimes. For example, Northwestern says they generally do not give scholarship aid to transfers in their first year. But they ended up giving me a huge scholarship! I was totally shocked.

I remember I almost didn't even apply to NU because of that statement!! But then I said, "What the heck... You never know." ;)

No I didn't :( Darn it. I probably should have but I was already late with finishing up the regular application so I didn't even think about that possibility. I guess getting into IBanking won't be much of a choice if I go to Chicago as I will need the $$$,$$$ to pay off all the debts. Who knows, maybe next year I will apply for finaid and they'll suprise me :P

Congrats on your scholarship for NU though. It must have been a great feeling. They are both amazing schools and I think the main thing that attracts me to Chicago, besides the members of CC of course, is how much more of a unique (that can be good and bad) college experience it offers as opposed to NU or other colleges, but this isn't to say that NU is inferior in anyway. I wouldn't mind going there with a huge scholarship ;)

-and we should both get some sleep.

You're probably right about that. :-)

Yeah. Damn procrastination >:

If one were to transfer from UChicago to Northwestern as a second year, do most credits transfer? And most importantly, when you apply as a transfer, how does the fin aid work out? When do you get the admission letter and fin aid leter? If fin aid is the most important thing regarding whether I transfer at all, can I expect the same kind of grants/scholarships from NU that I got from UChicago? I got a $30,600 grant from Chicago -- can I get that kind of help from NU? Or Columbia University? Or USC? I am going into Film and I need a college that really focuses on that major.

Thanks!

I got a $29k scholarship from NU as a transfer for next fall. So yes, you can. But NU warns that "in general" they do not give scholarship aid to transfers for their first year at NU.

Are you a first-year transfer to NU?

No, I'm a second year transfer (actually more like 1 & 1/2 since I went part time for a semester). I'm actually at a community college though, so that might have played some part in them giving me the grant for my first year at NU.

You would think they would have thought you'd saved money by going to community college! lol. I dunno. I feel gipped by not getting into NU the proper way. I don't really know what is the easier way to get into working in the film industry other than going to school for it, but I can't go off to California to an arts college that doesn't offer good finaid. Here's hoping for NU finaid!!! And a final acceptance after the rejection in April |( .

Ha! Not if I didn't have it to save in the first place! :D

Does UChicago have some sort of program that can prepare you for your film industry goals? Because being there with a 30k grant is pretty awesome, if you ask me!!!
