Would It be a stupid decision for me to change my original decision of majoring in business for a child studies major? I can't seem to make up my mind. I know I'm only a junior, soon to be senior in high school. But time is running out! I don't want to regret any decision I make. I feel like I would really enjoy child studies. But I really want to own a business one day. Opinions?

You have plenty of time to decide on what you want to major in, so don’t worry about that! I recommend you apply to a school that has both business & child studies as a major. When you start college you’re going to have to take all of your general education classes (math, science, writing, etc) which gives you time to decided what it is you want to do. I would also recommend maybe taking an intro to child studies to see what its really about and that will help you decide if thats really what you want to do.

Another thing you can do is research online the job outlook for both and compare them along with income, degree needed, work setting, etc. That might help you with your decision, or see if your high school advisor or college advisor can help you set up a job shadow so that you can see hands on what the work is really like.

Also check into double majoring if you can do that or minor in business. That way you always have a back up plan if something doesn’t work out.

Good luck!

You can start a business with an Elemetary Education, Child Studies or any degree. You can’t teach little kids in public school without an Elementary Education degree. If you are interested in both, I’d go Elementary Ed and take a few Business courses, I don’t know if you’d have time for an entire Business minor but maybe.

Starting a daycare would be perfect for you, if you still want to start a business, yet work with kids. Best of both worlds.
