I heard from everyone that the Chinese SAT II Curve is really harsh, and you can only get 1 wrong for an 800, but the College Board Real SAT II Book says different. The scoring chart on the SAT II Chinese derived from the November 2005 tests says that an 80 raw score is an 800. This means you can miss 4. Can anyone help me on this issue, anyone that has taken it before and tell me how many you can REALLY miss ignoring the common knowledge that "only 1 wrong for 800" and still get an 800. If any has taken the Chinese SAT II, can you give me some insight on how hard it is compared to which practice tests you've taken, and which practice tests you've taken. Thanks!

I didn't take any practice tests at all, and I got a 800. (I think i missed 1 ?) But then again I am sort of fluent in Chinese (it's a long story that I won't delve into) so I'm not an accurate baromenter of whether or not the test is hard.
the curve, like for AP Chinese, is brutal because people who are native speakers take it, so unless you're super confident in your abilities I would really rethink my decision to take it. I'm pretty sure I saw a chart somewhere that says that if you miss 2-3 you could still get a 800.
It all depends on your background ...if you're say, a student who took up Chinese in high school, the colleges would not judge you as harshly as a student who grew up in a Chinese-speaking country.

The questions are pretty straightforward. If you have any other questions/thinking about the AP Chinese exam too, feel free to PM me.

So the survey thing in the beginning affects your score? Anyone else have opinions?

Also why does the college board real sat II book say u can miss like 4?

The survey at the beginning doesn't affect your score, that's just for research purposes. I think what athenegoddess meant about colleges is that if you got a pretty good score after having taken Chinese in school or something, it would be more impressive/meaningful to colleges than if you got the same score coming from a Chinese speaking home or country.

k, thanks for answering that question. What about that curve on the Official Blue Collegeboard SAT II Test with the Chinese? It says an 80 is an 800. Clarification please?

Noooo clue about the curve, sorry.

Is there anyone that knows anything about this curve?

There is a slight curve of a couple questions. Don't take it if you are Asian unless you are fluent. If you aren't Asian then you don't need to be worried about getting a close to perfect.

yup, that's what I meant. Lilyrobin said it perfectly... sorry if that was confusing!

This is the test with an 800 as the 54th percentile. Do you think the curve is harsh for a reason?

Masochist for the questions that are curved usually how many are there?

I keep hearing that its the test with no curve, but im seeing ppl say that you can still miss a few and get 800? more clarifications?

screw the curve. I know I missed at least two and I'm a native speaker.

Same here. I know I got a few wrong, and I'm a native speaker as well. I hope it won't be that bad.

Hi i am signed up to take the Sat II chinese test in november and on the 2011 sample test booklet i got a 630 and i am a non native speaker who really has only had 1 year and 1/2 of chinese… what do u think the best way to prepare is ?? because i bought another book that is actually specifically for the chinese sat2’s but the questions are much harder then those compared to the official sat 2 test

It’s really up to you… what schools are you trying to apply for? If you’re nonnative, you wanna try to get 650+ or maybe 700+. The test is extremely difficult due to the amount of native people that take it. 800 is already 57% percentile.

Hey, I am taking it too… I have done chinese for long time but still is worried. All we can do is to have confidence with what we are doing! Good luck! Lets post after the test about how we did on the test:) Good luck!
