Chinese University of Hong KONg

Hello there,

Could anyone shed light on this university for doing a study abroad? I am a industrial engineering major and interested in going abroad. Even though I have visited Hong Kong in my travels, tHis seems to be my only option available but not too sure about it.. On google maps, it looks like its quite far away from downtown. While academic quality is a factor, I'm going more for the social experience so was curious how it is..

Thanks

For social experience in Hong Kong, go to HKU. They have the best hall life. HKUST and CUHK will be furthest from “downtown” HK, but only about 30-45 minutes away.

HKU will have the best social experience, but it will depend whether you are seeking cultural immersion or just hanging out with exchange students. If you are just hanging out with exchange students, all 3 universities – UST, CUHK, HKU will be ok.

Hey BoelterHall, did you do the program at HKU? I’m considering studying abroad at either HK or Paris, so if you have any feedback on your experience at HKU, it would really help out with my decision!

i studied abroad spring 2008 at the Chinese Univ of Hong Kong and had the time of my life!!! Yes, it is further from downtown because it is in the New Territories region, but public transportation/MTR is great in HK so it was never a problem. While I was there I also was friends with students who studied at HKU. Both are GREAT universities and either way you’ll have a great social experience so don’t worry. If you have questions you can email me at my secondary email address: faithfulxangel@yahoo.com

hk is a small city and has a great transportation system. you can get whatever you want there. dont ever worry about it!

Hey is there anyone applying for IBBA in cuhk? i wish to study there this year and i am very excited to go there  but i havent received any offer yet although most of my friends did.

@ ameliaivana Hey, when did you apply? I guess CUHK takes a long time to declare the result. I got my offer for Biomedical Engineering a week ago. Did you try contacting them through e mail? I don’t know why but they hardly replies to any mail. Since March, I have sent them about 5 to 6 mails but did not receive any reply. I guess you can call them and see what they say. I did it myself. However, the lady did not give me any useful reply. If you have offer from any other universities tell them about it and show them that you are much more interested to study in CUHK. This might help you. Btw, your friends who got an offer, did the offer letter mentioned anything about scholarship? Thanks.

you could try go for HKU. It is a bit far from downtown Hong Kong but the Hong Kong transport system is very quick, it wouldn’t take you more than half and hour/40 mins to get from CUHK to downtown central

@ornima i received the conditional offer this morning and it requires 2A and 1B in GCE A level exams. What about yours? None of them got the scholarship offer but my senior who is studying in cuhk now said that the college where ure gonna stay in will offer some scholarship each year. depends on your gpa. so dont worry ;)

@ameliaivana Hey thank you for the info. I haven’t received any conditions because I am done with my CIE A level and had my results when I applied. Anyways, Congrats. You must be too happy…:)

I’m looking at CUHK for journalism. I’m a Chinese adoptee living in the United States applying as an international student.

Here are my stats:
GPA: 3.87-3.9something unweighted (somewhere around there)
SAT: 2040 CR 640 M 630 W 770
AP: Language Arts and Composition and US History - 5s on both.
EC: Great ECs - president of a human rights club in my school, published in national news website, interned at online livestreaming network over the summer, and more.

Also, is there anything I should know about the admissions process? I can’t find much information.
