Chinese woman passage

I got those answers too, ptang.

i got the same as yours ptang

no it was not experimental, but CB uses different short passages for international candidates (i think!)

hey do u guys remember the choices for the second questions about the relationshuip btwn the two paragraphs? sry I am worried haha
was there only one choice relating to the fact that one supported another?
cause i vaguely remember ciricling the one that said p2 provides some evidence for p1

one of the answers for the first one was how chinese women contributed to feminism. that was the correct one - explain to me exactly what the impact of WWII on chinese women was and i might consider your answer, but think about it - WWII didnt have any impact on chinese american women, they had an impact on it because they helped out and ****.

Chone,

The "feminism" answer was too specific. The first sentence in the second paragraph mentioned that the Chinese American women had different motives for participating in the war effort; some because of patriotism, some because of the feminist movement, and others for other reasons. That is ALL that the passage mentioned about feminism, so that can't possibly be the answer. On the other hand, even though it's true that the Chinese American had an impact on the war, it also worked the other way around. The fact that the U.S. waged World War II spurred them to take action to help the country. Besides, the war probably had a greater impact on the women than vice versa, as the Chinese American women in San Francisco was but a small part of the total U.S. population that was involved in the war effort. Therefore, the "impact on war" answer was the best.

When answering the questions you should only use the info given in the passage... not information from your own knowledge about history

The paragraph said nothing of feminism...

i still disagree. i dont think you remember the passage quite right - the entire second paragraph, from my perspective, included examples of chinese american women doing things which benefited feminism and its causes. the answer said something like furthering what feminists were already doing, by doing **** like in the red cross and so forth they were in fact doing that. the last sentence in the first paragraph said something about their contributions to specifically feminism.

another hole i see in your logic is that feminism isnt too broad - in fact, its too specific, from your perspective, since it was only one aspect of the wars impact on them.

lastly, i'd like to say that explaining the effect of WWII on chinese american women was not hte POINT of the passage. in fact, it didnt really explain anything - it told it straightforwardly. nowhere in the essay did it explain why WWII drove the chinese american women to do these things, and it was not a psychological analysis of why the war affected them.

Chone,

I had meant "specific." (You'll see that I edited my first post.) The question asked about the primary purpose -- the passage as a whole. The women were not doing things specifically to benefit feminism, because, as I already stated, the passage EXPLICITLY stated that that was only ONE of many different reasons (I am 100% certain of this), and the activities they were involved in all helped with the war effort in general. And since this was a general question, you must consider both paragraphs, and the point of the first paragraph was to introduce how the war affected different minorities, specifically Chinese American women. I don't think that the "WWII impact" answer was the very best possible answer ETS could have written, but it was certainly the best answer among the five there.

whatever. i'm done talking about it. we'll see on the...30? time to check the average curves again and compensate for this possible mistake.

I ordered the Question-and-Answer service, so I'll be getting the test booklet and the answers, but that won't be coming until the end of June, at the earliest. I can let you know what the answer is then (or if I get a perfect raw score in CR, by May 24-30). :)

yeah i got the qa service too...

have you taken the sats yet? if so, what did you get?

Chone,

I'm an SAT tutor who owns his own tutoring company. The last time I took the SAT was years ago, back in high school. I decided to take it in May because my students keep asking me if I have ever taken the new SAT, and I am sick of answering "no." Additionally, I thought it's my responsibility to take the official SAT at least once or twice NOW, as a tutor, in order to become an even better tutor. I'm glad I did, because I certainly gained a few subtle insights that I can now impart to my future students.

I scored a 1590/1600 back in high school.
