Choate and Lawrenceville

My D is thinking about Lawrenceville or Choate. Can anyone share some info on either of these schools? Do the schools have uniforms, when are the curfew, where do students go to college, how strict is it, etc.?

I think the schools are similar. They have similar study body size, similar matriculation stats, it comes down to fit, and practicality. I think Choate has more of an Artistic feel and Lawrenceville more sports- oriented, but to pigeon hole either school like that is a disservice to both schools. Both schools provide a broad range of offerings and a diverse student body – as it pertains to interest, talent and ethnicity. When making our final decision last year, we took a fair amount of practicality into our decision… What school of those we were accepted to is easier to get to, which had the sports that we wanted and where we knew my child could make the team, etc.

Regarding your specific questions, Lawrenceville does have a dress code, which I would describe as casual but neat. They do have check-in/curfews, and mandatory study hall. I would imagine that it is similar to Choates. If you want to see that type of information, search on the respective school’s website for the Parent Handbook. It will be all laid out there.

abcabc, I’d say the best place for you start with the basic questions like these are the school websites and http://www.boardingschoolreview.com (just know that some of their statistics are out of date, and that the school websites are better sources of up-to-date stats)

In contrast to GreenTea, we found the schools to be quite different from each other. If you are really interested in the schools, then a visit is in order. I am guessing this is for the 2014 application cycle? If so, give the schools a couple of months to deal with their newly-accepted students, revisit days, etc. Later in the spring is a good time to contact schools. Summer is a good time to see the campus, but for a real idea of what the schools are like, it’s better to see them when school is in session.

But I have to make a decision between the two by April 10. I am going to the revisit days. I have googled a bunch of information about both of the schools. I was hoping that a current/past lawrenceville or choate student could give some insight… Thanks in advance.
