Choate-- Dorms, Student Insight-- current students please post!!! Thanks:)

Does he/she have a lot of Homework/ECs/clubs, etc?

Yep, his sport and main EC take up 4-5 hours per day on top of academics. Seems eating and sleeping are also expendable.

I’ve heard that CHoate has a wonderful arts program. Are most students focused on academics over arts, or the other way around? Also, how are the humanities classes? Is the socratic method practiced?

@ChoatieMom: On that topic-does Choate seem to have a sleep deprivation problem? I’ve seen mentions of it on a few threads, like tendrils of mist.

Can you apply for financial aid for private lessons? I’m interested, but…

Hahaha, I might have to ask the financial aid on private lessons too.

An off topic question–how much did you have to pay for deposit?

My family had to pay 10% of the tuition for the deposit.

Also, have any of you guys received any mail from Choate other than the curriculum?

@GR: Boarding schools don’t have sleep deprivation problems–kids do. Part of it is time management (even among the best of them), part of it is the insane amount of interesting things to do and people to talk to, part of it is the academic/sports/EC load, and part of it is just the biology of the growing teenage body.

I haven’t talked to a single BS parent on this board who doesn’t list sleep as one of the top priorities of their BS kids on break. You WILL work hard; you WILL play hard; you WILL be tired; you WILL love it. Don’t lose sleep over this in advance. ;)

@FutureExonian15 Just the acceptance package plus the course guide. Other than that no… I wonder if they’ll send anything else soon, after you accept?

Hahaha, I see what you did, ChoatieMom! Thanks!
