Hey guys, the Housing Surveys were just emailed out today!
There are lots off odd questions though... like what temperature room do you like to sleep in, what types of clothes you wear, and how tall you are.

Any reason for these strange questions you think?

My son just did his. Those questions that might at first seem a little odd, are actually quite important. They just want to try and match you up with the right room mate. My son hates to sleep in a hot room, so the room temperature question is important to him. I cannot remember seeing one about clothes though.

Just answer the questions truthfully. It’s so that they can match you up with a roommate who has similar sleeping preferences/music tastes/etc. Little differences and arguments between you and your roommates can take their toll so they try as well as they can to pair you up with someone similar to you. Roommates are an extremely important part of your success at boarding school so good luck!

I do remember the questions being a bit funny, but in all honesty Choate does a wonderful job creating room mate pairs so their must be some truth and reason behind all the strange questions… good luck!

The bottom of the survey said to send in a pic of yourself if you haven’t so already. Are you notified who your roommate is before hand?

I doubt it. We were suppost to send in a picture before April 11th. We don’t find out our roommate and house until registration i think.

No, I am afraid you have no idea until you actually come to campus. The cool thing about coming to campus early is that you can check out your dorm and see who lives with you.

I already know my house All freshman boys are in mem xD

@goothebear
Early like a day earlier?

Yeah, I came a few days earlier because of flight conflicts and I saw who my roommate was and tried to facebook him HAHAHAHAHAHA don’t call me a stalker because I am not.

@bronx
right. i forgot hahaha

@goothebear
are you gonna be a sophomore next year?

@goothebear
isn’t is against the rules to get to campus before your designated time? And do freshman get to campus the same day of registration or a few days prior?

all new students get onto campus before returning students i think. whether your freshman or upper classmen i don’t think it matters

yeah, i know that, but what i meant was that everyone has a designated time to get to campus, and I think its against the rules to arrive on campus before that date

@BronxKid,

My brother was (still is) a prefect in the new sophomore dorm so I helped him move in early. I just took a detour and looked at my dorm, which wasn’t too far.

@brandonnnbsc

Nah, I will be a junior

@goothebear

ohh okay. how many sophomore boy dorms are there?

@BronxKid- I arrived to Choate 3 days before registration with my family and just explored the campus + Wallingford for a few days. There was no rule saying that we could not do that and actually, I met my advisor 2 days before registration and he gave me my room key and I moved in a few hours later. So, if you want to get there before everyone else, go for it! And no, freshman arrive with all of the other new students.

There are 4 possible places for sophomore boys to live. The largest is Tenny House (Noho…stands for “north house”) which houses 42 boys. Next comes Spencer I believe which houses around 25 and then CK which has around 12 sophomores and then additional juniors and PG’s. Lastly is Hill House where I think maybe 10 sophomore boys live. These numbers are a rough estimate.

sweet! so I could arrive there before registration? and when do you find out who your adviser is?

If you have a purpose for arriving early, then yes. If not, come at registration. I live very far away from Choate though so I came early just to have more adjustment time. You meet your advisors on registration day, but you find out from CHIP late August

Actually, CK has 8 sophomores. CK is the chillest dorm.

Thanks goo, I wasn’t sure the exact number. Does that mean there are more in Spencer and Hill? And yes, CK is the chillest boy dorm.
