Housing Survey

Soon to be new student at Choate and I just got the housing survey, something everyone from every school will probably get and I was kind of confused about what I should really answer.

Here is the survey.

Housing and Roommate Questionnaire
This questionnaire has been designed to aid the Choate Housing Committee in determining the most appropriate housing match for new boarding students. Please take the time to answer all of the questions and provide an appropriate explanation where available. Thank you for your cooperation!

Sleeping and Rooming Habits

  1. If you had a choice, would you prefer to live:*

See I am not sure whether or not I would want a roommate because I do really want to meet new people, but at the same time I require absolute silence to be able to concentrate on my studies and I am easily distractable. I am not sure if I prefer privacy or friendship?

  1. What kind of relationship would you hope to have with your roommate?*

So the options are basically a scale of how close I would want to be with my roommate and I don’t really know about this either. I mean, I guess if we both had the same interest we could go to the gym and stuff together. At the same time I don’t want my life consumed by my roommate.

  1. If living away from home, how would you most likely keep your room? *

Really neat, no worries about this question.

  1. On school mornings, are you likely to get up before breakfast?*

I mean yeah.

4b. On weekends, are you likely to sleep in as late as possible?

Sometimes

  1. Do you prefer to sleep in a room that is: * (temp)

Pretty cool.

  1. Do you prefer to sleep in a room that is: * (lighting)

Uh, I’ll probably bring a lamp so it doesn’t matter.

  1. For sleeping, which describes you best? *

This question is also in regards to noise and I am confused about the whole roommate thing again. I usually need it to be pretty silent.

  1. On weekends, I like to stay up late:*

Sometimes

9-11 was kind of irrelevant and easy to answer

  1. How important are sports activities to you? *

Pretty important? I do crew.

  1. How important are organized music, art and/or drama activities? *

Not very, but I enjoy artistic people?

  1. How interested are you in politics or current events? *

Very very very.

The rest aren’t as important.

If you require absolute silence to study and to sleep, I would recommend a single! My brother was like this in college and it was torture for him living with someone else. You can make lots of friends in sports and the dorm, even if you have a single. I am going to make sure my DD asks for a single, so she doesn’t keep her roommate awake when she has coughing spells from allergies, or annoy her roommate with her constant chatter : )

Hi! I’m a freshman at Choate. I agree with mass2020mom that if you need absolute silence, you should probably request a single. It’s interesting how Choate gives students a housing survey for their first year but hosts lotteries for singles/doubles/triples after that.
