I just got accepted into Choate (I applied for 9th grade) and I would really appreciate some pros and cons to help me get a better view on whether or not I should go Thanks!
This is a pretty broad topic. In many ways, Choate will be like many other boarding schools. I suggest you start with the pros and cons of boarding schools in general as you understand. What pros did you find through your research before you applied? What cons are important for you to avoid? It will help narrow down the topic so you can get most effective help from posters who are familiar with Choate.

Sorry, let me specify. I’m mostly curious about the everyday life of a Choatie. Some questions I have are:
What’s the classroom/learning environment like?
Is Choate very academically competitive?
How many clubs/sports teams can you join in one term?
How do you get private lessons for instruments?
I have braces so is it possible to go to a local orthodontist?
When would I try out for JV/Varsity fall sports?
Is there a lot of exclusion/social cliques?
Also, what makes Choate stand out from other boarding schools, whether in college matriculation, SAT scores, national awards, unique programs (I know their signature programs are very special), etc.?
For cons, I really don’t want to go to a school where social status is more important than academic achievement, the workload shouldn’t be super heavy but I’ve heard that Choate’s workload is very light which for me isn’t ideal (I prefer a slightly heavy workload). Also, what’s the dress code like? I heard it’s relatively casual, but how casual? Like no T-shirts, no sweatshirts/pants?
Thanks!!
