Job Advice

I work at McDonald's but I'm also a high-achieving student--ranked 2 in class, currently taking 3 AP's.

This weekend, I had a crazy amount of homework and projects. I'm also scheduled to work 15 hours. Yesterday, I was put pretty much forced to stay after and close the shop, and that was pretty bad because it was my first time, so I was slow. It's Sunday now, I'm scheduled to work and close again, and I still have a crapload of work to do.

I tried to call in sick, but the manager lady refused to let me call off. I try to be nice to everyone but this woman infuriates me--everyone at work dislikes her.

I tell my mom and she wants me to quit because she saw me stay up till 5 am doing homework. I'd love quit to because life is pretty hectic, but I'd also feel bad about leaving all the nice people on the crew--I'd totally stay if the mean manager didn't work.

So I'm asking you guys. Should I quit? How will this look if I plan to get other part-time jobs (I'm turning 18 soon)? I'm afraid I'll be ruined if future employers or college admissions call the place, the mean manager will be on and spout crap about me (but everyone else would give me good reviews though).

Oh, I guess I should mention that it has only been 6 weeks and it’s my first job…

You should be spending your time studying.

If the company won’t reduce your hours, then you need to quit, unless you truly need the money to eat.

Don’t worry about how this will look on your resume. Simply never mention you worked at McDonalds. Or say you had to quit because of your workload at school.
