I read BDM's post in the coursework thread and he mentioned not taking any classes related to ecology, diversity and evolution.

As you can see up there on my list of courses this would make BIOL 117 the best choice, however I read and heard fantastic things about the professor who teachers the 119 course. Also I think I would be likely to do better in those subjects since I understood them best in high school.
Does taking cell biology and genetics help that much? Or should it not really effect me if I take the 119 course instead?

117 & 119 look like a Gen Bio 1/2 sequence, which is what you have to take. 100 is a common non-major survey course. So actually you have to take both and the fact of the matter is that an understanding of cell bio/molecular bio/genetics is far more important for the learning and practice of medicine than diversity or evolution (seems like common sense to me – anyone disagree?). Physiology would be important, of course, but you have to take both anyway, so take 117 in the fall and 119 in the spring.

You need a full year of each of the following:
-General Biology
-General Chemistry
-Organic Chemistry
-Physics
-English
-Math*
-Biochemistry*

*These two are generally recommended by most schools and req’d at a few. Math is often req’d 1 sem w/ 2 sem recommended; biochem is not really req’d by most schools but it’s very frequently recommended and shows you can handle upper-division bio/chem, which is important to demonstrate

If I take two biology courses in a year, such as 117 & 119, would I need to take two lab courses as well or is one semester of biology lab alright or do I take a full year of labs?

All of the science courses listed above must also have labs w/ them every semester (except biochem, although at least a 1-semester lab would be a good idea to show you can handle an u/d science lab)

Ok so i’ll add the corresponding BIOL 116 Lab courses each semester and the chemistry labs.

I just checked the sight and it seems the spaces are limited in our biochem classes. So chemistry majors and biochem majors are getting priority. I think I could take a spot in it if I sign up at the right time. I’d want to take biochemistry as a sophomore though right?

Thanks again, you’ve made this whole process so much less stressful for me, I really can’t thank you enough. =]
