So I'm not really aware of how college works. Does choosing from a UC, Cal state, or community college for undergrad really matter, seeing as I'm not really joining a prestigious school? Is grad school the only one that matters?

If you want to get a bachelor’s degree and attend a community college, you need to transfer as a junior to a UC or CSU to complete the bachelor’s degree – community college offer freshman and sophomore level course work and associates degree programs.

Some UCs and CSUs are prestigious, if that matters to you.

Whether and how choice of school matters depends on a lot of things specific to you:

Your intended or possible major(s), or whether you are very undecided.

Whether you will be advanced (already have a lot of AP/IB/college credit), at-grade level, or behind (need remedial courses in English and math) when you graduate from high school.

Your post-graduation plans (e.g. graduate school, job, etc.).

Your budget.

What schools you can get admitted to academically (by high school record, test scores, and other admission criteria used by UC and CSU schools).

Other factors like campus life versus commuter, etc…

Hi,

I am planning to attend to one of this college to get a pre-med or biology degree. I applied to Baylor, University of Florida, IUPUI and University of Alabama at birmingham. Which one do you recommend me to go? After getting my degree I am planning to apply to the med-school having my top choice the college in where I got my degree.

You do not have to major in biology to take the pre-med courses.

MCAT score and GPA (especially in the pre-med courses and science courses) are among the most important factors in medical school admissions; availability of pre-med extracurriculars (e.g. medical related shadowing and volunteering) can certainly be a criterion.

Keeping cost and debt down is very important, since medical school is quite expensive.

if you would like some info on uab…just pm me or post questions here…
