Choosing classes?

I'm really confused about how to choose classes. I'm a pre major in the College of Arts & Sciences and I want to work towards Business Administration, but keeping my options open with all business related majors. How do I pick which courses to take? And also, what general courses do I need to take, and how do I decide which level/class to take? I'm registering for classes in a week so I'm kind of worried :S

What exactly business related majors?

If this is Economics and Foster then:

 1. English 101/2, of course.
 2. Economics, Micro and Macro
 3. Accounting, Financial (Managerial is not required for application, but you will need to take it)
 4. Business Calculus or Regular Calculus 1 (I would take Regular because I believe that it allows to continue the sequence for BS in Economics)
 5. Statistics
 6. Introduction to Law

Please note that only Calculus, English, Financial Accounting and Microeconomics are required from you to apply to Foster. However, it doesn’t mean that you have to have only these at the time of applying. But don’t worry. There will be advisers whose job is to help you to choose your classes.

Agree with seatac re: advisers. Have you had your A&O yet? I’m a transfer, so I don’t really know how things work at UW, but we had advisers at my CC who help develop ‘educational plans’ to map out what students need to take. This might also be posted on the department’s website. If you’re an incoming freshman, you might also find the gen ed classes at the advising website.

i am having an online a&o session though, so I’m guessing i probably won’t get to actually see and ask an adviser about this stuff? thank you guys for the help though!

Here is what it says on FYP website: “and the academic advising resources they need to register for the first quarter schedule at the UW.”

So, I assume that the “advising resources” include advisers. Most likely, you will be able to chat with them online (it makes sense since you have a set time and date for your orientation, which wouldn’t be the case if everything was just in plain text). And you can always email an adviser and ask for help. I would do it in advance and also find out whether you will get a chance to talk to an adviser during your orientation.

Check this: [UW Advising - Home](UW Undergraduate Advising: Home)

i can’t seem to find english 101 in the time schedule course search, i can only find english 111. is that an option? what is the difference…?

Well my CC’s English 101 is equivalent to UW’s English 131, but I’m not sure that’s what you’re looking for.

Check this link: [UW Advising - English Composition](http://www.washington.edu/uaa/advising/degreeplanning/engcomp.php)

It has a list of the english composition courses at UW.

ENGL 101 is equilant to ENGL 111, 121, or 131. You can take either to meet 101 requirement.

I strongly recommend that you meet with an adviser and rely on online discussion as a secondary source.

I believe 101 is ENGL 109-110 at the UW. 101 is basically an introductory composition course. The link that nbr000 gave to you is very helpful. This course is among the first that I recommend you to take.

Now, the nice thing about Foster is that they don’t really care about the grades in those classes, which you don’t have to have completed at the time of applying. You just have to have 2.0 or above in them. So, if you find that some classes sound challenging, feel free to take them during the quarter prior to planned acceptance into Foster.

P.S. I second sgcore that it’s much better to talk to an adviser. Our help here is very limited and our information can’t be 100% right.

" how do I decide which level/class to take?"

The higher level courses have intro level prereqs. So you can’t just jump to the next level and skip the intro courses. For the science and math class anyways. Econ200 (microecon), english111/131, math124 is prereq classes for business so you might look at those courses. math124 is difficult for some people, take it with easier classes like econ200 and english. (This is a blanket statement. some people might find a course hard or vice versa).
