Dual Enrollment organic chemistry vs AP Stats/AP Java. Which should I do? the other parts of my schedule are:
AP Physics B
AP Lit
Calc 3 dual enroll
4th year spanish
AP world

I want to go to Wharton. What class would look the best?

What do you plan to major in? Basically, which course would better prepare you for college?

Wharton is UPenn’s business school. I’m more worried about getting in than preparing for what I would do in college because I can always take the less desirable classes at Wharton after I am accepted. So I want the class that looks cooler on the transcript. I’ll be at Wharton for 4 years no matter what because it is very difficult to graduate in 3 years anyways.

Specifically I want to go into finance. Maybe even (if I’m lucky) I’ll make it into one of UPenn’s dual-degree programs with the Wharton+science, like M&T (business+engineering) or LSM (biology+business).

If you’re hoping for a dual degree program in science, I’m going to assume you probably will enjoy organic chem more than stats. Plus, dual enrollment courses probably look better than AP (correct me if I’m wrong…)

Organic Chem is TOUGH for college students, let alone dual enrolled high schoolers. AP Stats is a lot more helpful for business. I would go with AP Stats as it is more relevant to your major.

What’s your preparation for Organic Chem? Be aware that it’s typically a weed out class, ie., designed to make a percentage of the class fail. If you feel confident you can get a B+ when in competition with seriously grade-conscious students, then take it, it’ll definitely look better than stats. Be aware it’s a risky move.
AP Stats won’t impress Wharton too much but you are already in Calc3 so that should be fine.

My only options for dual enrollment are at a community college/similarly low school (like a state satellite school). Wouldn’t that make Organic Chem easier? I’ll probably ask around. The consensus around here is that dual-enrollment is going to take effort but won’t jeopardize my grade.

I am very good at chemistry, in AP Chem right now I rock it and I do well on Chem olympiad practice exams.

My only issue is probably prestige of the class, and I’ll ask around at my school and my counselors to find out what it’s like. Thanks for your answer MYOS.

If you take that class and do well, considering it’ll be much faster-paced than a high school class and harder than an AP class, it’ll be in your favor, as long as you get a B+ or more.
