hey, how does the roommate selection work for cmu (as in, how do i let cmu know who i want to room with). also, my good friend was priority waitlisted and i'm already in...what are the chances that we can room together?

Probably 100%. Some people pick roommates who got in ED since it takes the person with the earliest deposit in choosing rooms.

You can pick roommates after they send you the housing stuff; there will be an option where both of you put each others names down.

excellent....thanks a lot

how does this selection proccess work if you don't have anyone you want to room with? Do they just randomly put you with someone?

I think you fill out a survey thing saying if you mind if your room mate smokes/ is loud/ ect.... that, and I think they set you up with people of the same major

You fill out a survey and they try to match you with someone that comes close to answering the questions like you did. MY S was not matched with someone from his major. (frosh year).

Agree with wct - majors have nothing to do with roommate matching - they put people together with similar habits and likes/dislikes...so answer the questionaire truthfully! It's pure chance if you do get matched with someone in the same major.

DEFINITELY answer the questions truthfully. Even the tiniest and smallest details will seriously **** you off once you start living with people.

I do not think major has an impact on roomate selection, but I'm 99% sure that which college you're in does. At sleeping bag weekend, engineers were with engineers, business with business, etc. It may not work in every individual's case, but that is the goal. When people are on sports teams they seem to try to room them together, since they have to wake up early for practices.
