Choosing SBU Engineering? Think again please.

Okay so let me start off by saying, I'm a third year mechanical engineering major currently enrolled in SBU. The motive for this post is to show future applicants the pros and cons of stony, mainly focusing on engineers. As you'll see, the cons will outweigh the pros. Let me start with the good news...
PROS:
-THE PRICE*
-Nice Rec center (lol, not eng related but good to know)
-A lot of opportunities compared to other schools. (Job fairs, Engineering clubs such as Motorsports and Solar racing)
-Very nice machinists staff ( always willing to help with projects)
-Large Network (could be a good or bad thing)
-Extremely competitive with class and job fairs (could be a bad thing as well, but it motivated me to work harder.)

CONS:
1. MOST professors do NOT care: This is by far one of the worst things. You get no attention since classes are too big. Furthermore, some professors intentionally give us things are obviously not covered in homework and class, and it results in drastically low averages. Obviously some of them curve the class but WHAT ARE WE LEARNING REALLY? Nothing; we're learning that 50% is sometimes good enough. As one of my professors said "Teaching is secondary to the professors at stony brook" Stony Brook only cares about their reputation and research. They pick smart kids with high GPA's and SAT's to allow into the program, weed out the dumbest ones (btw over 100 kids dropped out), and get their reputation off kids that good at teaching themselves. Sad to say, that's how this engineering program works. This education is utterly embarrassing and in a way, fraudulent. If this is a top 100 university, I feel bad for other schools.

The Engineering Advisors are extremely Discouraging/have no faith in a failing student: Freshman year, I had to retake a class due to a bad grade. I specifically remember going to Deb Klein and all see did was talk down on me like she thought I couldn't do it engineering. She's not even an engineer and she lectured me on the things that go into making cars. Like please, you work at a desk; you dont know what it's like. Needless to say, if I listened to her, I wouldn't be here right now. I started freshman year near a 2 and now im above a 3. Thanks for nothing lady.

DECS: this school requires you to take things that are COMPLETELY unrelated to your major called DECS. I cannot tell you how many times I've gotten a lower grade on an engineering project just because I had an essay due for king Louis/other people you wouldn't care about. Top tier education my a**. All these DECS did was waste my money and time.

In a way, you get what you paid for. cheap school, cheap education.

5.Food is horrible. Hard to eat healthy. Overpriced,

Very corrupt school system. I've heard stories of people getting higher grades because their TA is a "friend". I guess this school did teach me one thing, it's about who you know; not what you know. i encountered that this semester and it really outraged me. It's not fair and some student work too hard for that to happen.

SO MANY CHEATERS. Cell phones during tests, notes in hand, scribbles on body parts, talking in different languages for answers, I've seen it all.

I could keep going on, but this post is too long. If you have questions on anything, PLEASE don't hesitate to ask me. I would be more than glad to help you since i'm now on break (oh yeah!). I've been a student here for 3 years and am planning to do my masters here as well (lol) so I know a pretty good amount on the school including alot of the bad things.(except admission scores.) Btw if anyone would like to know my admission score it will be posted below. If you think I'm just a hater, i'm not. I'm just a student who's been screwed over several times by this school. I just dont want it to happen to you. PLEASE look more into the college you're going to be attending.

ACT 29
GPA 92/100
