On the common app for vanderbilt they ask you to list your first choice followed by 2nd and 3rd. What would happen if I chose Undecided for first, Neuroscience for second, and Anthropology for 3rd?

If I got accepted but was borderline at the same time, could they say: "We accept you but you can ONLY choose anthropology because your stats aren't as good as most of who we admit."

I think most of the time the 2nd and 3rd choice is for different schools. For example maybe first choice is school of Arts and Sciences as an Econ major, then maybe second choice is HOD in Peabody. I could be wrong though. But since you don't have to declare your major til sophomore year I don't think they accept you under the condition of a certain major.

the major you list on your app is needed for two reasons
1) the undergrad school you're applying to (there are four, each offering different majors, i.e. arts & sciences is traditional liberal arts education, engineering, peabody is most educational and developmental majors, and blair is school of music)
2) assigning you a faculty advisor familiar with first year requirements and what not that you keep until you declare a major at which point you receive a faculty advisor that works in that department
